Wouldn’t You Though?

When was the last time something made you stop and stare and smile? Okay, apart from Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager. This tongue-in-cheek salute to party Queen Ms Moss was the last thing that did it for me. I saw it in the window of Lilford Gallery in Canterbury when I was squinting through the drizzle to find somewhere decent looking for a bite to eat (no surprises there). It’s painted on aluminium, by artist Dan Pearce, and it’s the coolest freakin’ thing I’ve seen in ages. audrey-blowme2

Now the reason I was in Canterbury was to see Pixie Lott perform in Breakfast At Tiffany’s over in the brilliant Marlowe Theatre. And voila! Lo and behold Dan Pearce also does this twist on Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, above. It must be a sign, I told myself, that I was destined to buy one of these pieces. Then I pictured the look on Mr Muddy K’s face if I sauntered home with what he would see as a brightly coloured piece of tin and a big hole in our bank balance. So I will just have to start saving – because forget all that ‘art is an investment thing’ – something that makes you smile and all your friends exclaim ‘your old farm house décor is so rock ‘n’ roll!’ is worth the hit in my book. Although incidentally I discovered that Dan Pearce was recently shortlisted as one of the UK’s most collectable emerging artists. So apparently *wink* you see it’s more the case that I can’t afford not to buy one of these beauties.

Other works of genius for sale include Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse. Sadly for me the Kate Moss creation had already been snapped up for a bargain £1,500 (well, you know, we’re talking bargain in art terms). But maybe by the time Dan’s painted another one I’ll have enough coins in the piggy bank. Time to pack up the sustainably sourced sandalwood candles – I’m saving for something new to decorate the Muddy mantelpiece!
