It was an unusual shopping list. A mannequin head and a bench for the bedroom. Not your every day essentials it has to be said. These were the couple of bits of furniture my friend and I were seeking in our quest to, you know, zhush up our houses just a little, to distract from the stained coffee tables and Weetabix crushed into the carpet. And we definitely didn’t want to spend a lot. So where to go…? VintageVibe, that’s where! Here, take a peek.

Cousins, Wendy and Lisa, are the creative brains behind this interiors showroom. They basically run with the idea that furniture should have personality as well as being pretty. First they created their own website sourcing unusual quirky stuff at great prices then, at the beginning of the summer this year, they moved from a warehouse to their showroom at The Hop Farm in Paddock Wood, Kent. Lots of gorgeously original finds that would certainly add a splash of character to any room…

Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all? The big, blue moose of course!

We enjoyed a good nose around the showroom – think small and stylish sofas and benches (much of which can be bespoke made), large mirrors, lighting, cushions, accessories and garden furniture. There’s even a few bits of hand-selected, second-hand clothing upstairs (funky pink pair of flats, £5, for me and Sarah snapped up an almost-good-as-new Karen Millen real leather jacket for a bargain £10!). I’ve put in an order for an end-of-bed bench (otherwise known as *cough* a dumping ground for yesterday’s clothes), see below, and came away with a few other fun bits like this vintage tin sign (£10), also below, that’s now sitting pride of place in my kitchen.

But what in the blazers, (I hear you cry), did my friend Sarah want a mannequin head for? Displaying the carnival headdress she wore to her 40th birthday celebrations of course! (Well, you have to see in a new decade with style, don’t you?) And did she manage to find one? Yes, she did! Success all round… So if it’s quirky or retro you want – you know where to go!

Thanks for this tip, Ali. I’ll be adding this to my list of places to visit. I love vintage. And if I can get a bargain, it’s even better. PS. Love your friend’s carnival headdress!!

I don’t know Tonbridge that well as I’m fairly new to the area so thanks soooo much for posting this. LOVE it.

      Hi Grace
Lovely to hear from you – and so pleased that you have discovered Muddy Kent if you’re new to the area. If you do head over to Vintage Vibe do mention that you read about them in Muddy Stilettos – they’d love to see you!
