Muddy eats: The Vine, Goudhurst

26 Oct 2016

Ah, now I’ve been excited to tell you about this little find for a couple of weeks. Those of you who know this pretty little corner of Kent will probably raise your eyebrows when I mention the word ‘cool’ (yeah I saw you do it). But I’m not kidding, The Vine pub, right in the heart of this quintessentially rural village has finally reopened after a change of ownership and complete refurb and now boasts a contemporary dining space and a cocktail lounge.

EAT HERE: 3 MICHELIN STAR WINNERS NEARBY

12 Oct 2016

I can happily say that there are many, many wonderful places to eat in Kent (and my waistband will back me up here) – not just the ones that made it into this year’s Michelin food list.

However those that did deserve a special mention and a special journey. So, here’s where the stars are falling in Kent and our surrounds for 2017. These local gems should be on every foodie fan’s bucket list of places to eat and – just in case you need even more pursuading – I’ll be making my way down the list and reviewing them over the months to come.

Muddy eats: The Compasses Inn, Crundale

27 Sep 2016

If you’re a bit of a food fan and like to keep up-to-speed on the rising stars in the pub and restaurant world you may well have heard of The Compasses Inn, Crundale. It has certainly been on my radar for a while – so on a sunny September lunch time last week I drove deep into the chocolate-box depths of the Kentish countryside, keen to stuff myself silly and file a full report – all in the name of research, of course.

10 Kent places to eat with amazing views

20 Aug 2016

In this county we are truly blessed – beautiful countryside on the interior and stunning coastline around the edges. So I’d like to start this post with the caveat that I am fully aware that there are many, many wonderful pubs and restaurants in Kent with truly awesome views. In fact I could probably list 10 in just one coastal town or village alone. So let’s just call this the first instalment and *hiccup* I’ll update the list with ten more when I’ve completed the next leg of my *hic* pub crawl.

Jo Killick and Kelly Randolph are the freelance fashion stylists, marketeers and creative brains behind the You, Me & The Dream luxury beach towels.

The Fine Grind, Tunbridge Wells

Jo says: ‘This is a hip new coffee shop down the bottom of the High Street in Tunny Wells.

Muddy eats: The Three Chimneys, Biddenden

14 Aug 2016

I often find myself in the car, whizzing along the winding, rural roads that run between Tunbridge Wells and Ashford. And every time I get to the middle bit, Biddenden, full of farmland and vineyards I notice a sign post tempting travellers to the The Three Chimneys pub. And I think – imagine if that pub’s food is as awesome as its setting…? So I did a bit of digging (not literally – I’m still driving remember), tried it out and – my giddy aunt have I been excited to tell you about it ever since…

The first thing to tell you about The Three Chimneys is that there are only two.

Muddy eats: The Kings Head, Wye

If you haven’t yet explored the Kent countryside at the foot of the North Downs (and just North East of Ashford) – here’s 3 reasons Why you should visit Wye. 1) It’s gorgeous location. 2) The fab food at The Kings Head pub and 3) Cool place to stay alert! The pub has just revamped 8 ensuite stylish bedrooms…

Not surprisingly, it was a friend in the food trade that first mentioned this pub to me as it’s very much a rising star at the moment.

Okay so the weather so far has been changeable to say the least. But could it be that (*whisper it*) summer is finally here? Muddy eats: The Poet, Matfield

21 Jun 2016

Having driven past The Poet numerous times and telling myself I really needed to try out the food there, Mr Muddy Kent and I finally got round to booking a table a couple of weeks ago. Word had reached my shell-like that exciting new changes were taking place at this country pub and that it was starting to make its mark on the foodie map – so slave to the job that I am, in I swooped, napkin tucked in at the ready.

Muddy eats: The Milk House, Sissinghurst

26 Feb 2016

Sissinghurst, you’ve put a spring in my step (and I’m not just saying that because I like alliteration). I nipped over to this particularly picturesque part of Kent on Wednesday. The kids were back at school, the sun was shining and I enjoyed a girlie lunch out at a great gastro pub, The Milk House, that I’ve had my eye on for ages. And yes, it lived up to expectations – great service (tick), awesome food (tick), stylish interiors (tick) yet an unpretentious buzz (tick).
