Top 12 cosy pubs to try

17 Nov 2016

Snow’s coming, you say? Are you kidding me?! We’ve had a brilliant run of mild weather, but winter’s definitely getting ready to hit where it hurts.

Nothing for it, then, but to dig out the ski socks, choose one of these supercosy pubs to take refuge in (with great food of course) and order in a bottle of red. This is just a starter list really because I could have gone on and on!

Muddy eats: The Curious Eatery, Boughton Monchelsea

7 Nov 2016

If there was ever a place that summed up what the my eating reviews are all about, it’s The Curious Eatery. Firstly I heard about it through a Facebook tip off from an old journo friend (thanks Louis!) who happens to live in the area and knew it would be of real interest to you all. Secondly, it’s so off the beaten track that you’d never stumble across it unless you’d heard about it from word-of-mouth (it’s not even had it’s official opening night yet).

Muddy eats: The Vine, Goudhurst

26 Oct 2016

Ah, now I’ve been excited to tell you about this little find for a couple of weeks. Those of you who know this pretty little corner of Kent will probably raise your eyebrows when I mention the word ‘cool’ (yeah I saw you do it). But I’m not kidding, The Vine pub, right in the heart of this quintessentially rural village has finally reopened after a change of ownership and complete refurb and now boasts a contemporary dining space and a cocktail lounge.

Muddy Eats: The Warren, Tunbridge Wells

14 Oct 2016

On one sunny September lunch time I visited this new restaurant right in the middle of Tunbridge Wells that is offering something never been seen (or tasted) before on the High Street. Food at The Warren comes straight from farm to fork. To my knowledge they are the first food establishment to do this in Kent, giving them the kudos of originality and great green credentials. So Tunbridge Wells (and surrounds) – are you game?

EAT HERE: 3 MICHELIN STAR WINNERS NEARBY

12 Oct 2016

I can happily say that there are many, many wonderful places to eat in Kent (and my waistband will back me up here) – not just the ones that made it into this year’s Michelin food list.

However those that did deserve a special mention and a special journey. So, here’s where the stars are falling in Kent and our surrounds for 2017. These local gems should be on every foodie fan’s bucket list of places to eat and – just in case you need even more pursuading – I’ll be making my way down the list and reviewing them over the months to come.

Muddy eats: The Terrace, One Warwick Park

20 Sep 2016

I’ve been keen to have a nosey around the much anticipated One Warwick Park Hotel in Tunbridge Wells since it opened in June. Sadly the launch party, which I was lucky enough to have been invited to, clashed with the Muddy Awards drinks (the highlight of my calendar, obvs!) so I couldn’t go. But actually to get a true measure of any place you can’t just see it at a launch night – no, you have to arrive screeching through the door 10 mins late because your dental appointment over-ran, followed by a long work call you couldn’t cut short and then total ineptitude about parking your car.

Muddy eats: The Swan at Chapel Down, Tenterden

6 Sep 2016

The first time I was invited to ‘try a Wine Flight’ I thought I was signing up to an afternoon in a jumbo jet full of journos knocking back the Chardonnay (wide-eyed young magazine writer that I was). Clearly, as all you more worldly folk know, a Wine Flight doesn’t actually involve travel – it’s more a tasting journey – the sampling of multiple wines, quite often paired with various dishes of food.

10 Kent places to eat with amazing views

20 Aug 2016

In this county we are truly blessed – beautiful countryside on the interior and stunning coastline around the edges. So I’d like to start this post with the caveat that I am fully aware that there are many, many wonderful pubs and restaurants in Kent with truly awesome views. In fact I could probably list 10 in just one coastal town or village alone. So let’s just call this the first instalment and *hiccup* I’ll update the list with ten more when I’ve completed the next leg of my *hic* pub crawl.

Muddy eats: The Three Chimneys, Biddenden

14 Aug 2016

I often find myself in the car, whizzing along the winding, rural roads that run between Tunbridge Wells and Ashford. And every time I get to the middle bit, Biddenden, full of farmland and vineyards I notice a sign post tempting travellers to the The Three Chimneys pub. And I think – imagine if that pub’s food is as awesome as its setting…? So I did a bit of digging (not literally – I’m still driving remember), tried it out and – my giddy aunt have I been excited to tell you about it ever since…

The first thing to tell you about The Three Chimneys is that there are only two.

Birthday at the Bistro: Hotel du Vin

6 Aug 2016

It’s my birthday this weekend and as all grown-up little girls know, ‘No fuss’ means, ‘Just a little bit of fuss. Nothing too demanding. A bunch of flowers. A bottle or two of fizz. A dressing gown made entirely of peacock feathers. Or, at the very least, a cake containing a Chippendale, or baby panda.’

So it’s testament to how well they know me that when I popped into Tunbridge Wells on Friday with a good friend and my sister-in-law to ‘grab a few bits’ they insisted on marking the occasion with a girlie lunch in town.
