Get your Mothering Sunday Sorted!

9 Mar 2017

Everywhere gets so darn booked up for Mothering Sunday – as you’ll know, if you’ve ever spent the week before desperately trying to nab a restaurant reservation only to find it’s Burger King or bust. So in the interests of being super-organized, we’ve decided to get in there early this year with our guide to what to do with your mother – or your children – on Sunday 26 March (I can think of a few suggestions that aren’t quite in keeping with the spirit of the day, but let’s leave that there).

On yer bike!

1 Mar 2017

Well hellooo there bum cheeks! You made yourselves known after a two-hour bike trail in Bedgebury Pinetum this weekend. Someone get me a bag of frozen peas! Okay, so I’m half joking – we quite enjoy a family bike ride in the Muddy family and obviously I have buns of *cough* steel. But mine had ever so slightly gone into hibernation over the last few months, how about you?

The best kids’ party EVER?

24 Feb 2017

Looking for an action-packed kids’ birthday party that doesn’t leave you reaching for your hipflask/valium? Gadzooks, I think I have it! What’s more it will win you major brownie points and is good value for money. Praise be!

My youngest Muddy is on the whole a fun-loving gentle soul, but boy does he love action/army/battles. Oh and Nerf – big-time (so does my daughter for that matter). He asked about paint-balling but, as this was his 8th birthday, he’s too young (apparently one bruises like a peach!).

12 Jan 2017

Some of you may be doing dry January – *groan* – but the weather certainly isn’t. And the half-term break feels forever away. It’s weeks like this that I take solace by gorging myself on potential holidays. Hot summer holidays in exotic climes with Rufus Sewell (if he’ll only stop moaning on and on about how he desires me), cool city breaks with Mr Muddy, gorgeous cottages in rugged climes for walking hols with my galpals and for family time in the UK, something luxe but active, rural but not too holiday campish.

The best way to spend a festive Sunday with the family!

5 Dec 2016

I’ll admit it, most of our weekends are taken up with taxi-ing the mudlets to various clubs or birthday parties and dealing with housework, homework and hangovers. But every now and then I insist on a day trip that takes us away from the routine of the rat race. Which is how we ended up at Leeds Castle Christmas Market this Sunday with its chocolate box cute fun-fair rides for the minis, gorgeous, boutique shopping stalls for the adults – followed by a slap up Sunday lunch (with red wine) in one of my fave places to eat.

Muddy tries: Ice Skating in the Park, Tunbridge Wells

19 Nov 2016

Everyone present agreed, there was something unmistakably magical about the opening night of Ice Skating in the Park in Calverley Park, Tunbridge Wells, on Friday. The music, the twinkly lights, the laughter, the mulled wine…and, wait… is that Bambi, all awkward-limbed and wide-eyed, slip-sliding across the frozen water? No, came the reply. That’s Muddy Kent in a brown Parka. *Sigh*. Pah! What do I care? I haven’t had so much fun out with the Mini Muddies in ages.

Get your skates on!

11 Nov 2016

Pop-up ice rinks are back for the winter, adding a touch of romance to the cold. They’re a great spot for a date (remember Rocky?), a family day out, or a fun slip sliding Christmas party and there are several in Kent and nearby…

Tunbridge Wells, Calverley Grounds, 18 Nov – 2 Jan

Calverley Grounds in Tunbridge Wells will once again be transformed into a beautiful winter wonderland, pictured above.

Family fun at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham

25 Aug 2016

Crikey, the summer holidays have screamed by. Before I know it I’ll be hosing down the kiddies before waving them off at the school gates and kicking my heels in delight. But there’s a teensy bit of me that is already mourning all the many things I promised myself I’d take time off work to do with them this summer. So this week a friend and I took our sons to The Historic Dockyard, in Chatham, and fulfilled a promise I’d made, oh, about 18 months ago: Batten down the hatches – let’s go!

Muddy Bumper Summer Survival Guide

3 Aug 2016

Why does the mind always go blank when you’re trying to plan a day out with the kids? Perhaps it’s all the gin we drink to survive… (Or, maybe that’s just me?) Anyhoo… what with August being the only month of the year when the Mini Muddies are off school every single day, we all need some ideas when it comes to entertaining the bratlets. And like your very own fairy godmother, I’ve put together the following itinerary… You can also check out the Muddy weekly guide to keep updated on what’s happening every seven days… No need to thank me, (just buy me a Jeroboam of sparkling rosé).
