I’ve been curious to try out The Chapel in Tunbridge Wells and tell you about it for some time now. There’s lots about this venue that’s really very Muddy – it’s cool and quirky; it’s a totally ‘word of mouth’ place (they never advertise and there’s no external signage on the salon) and they do things a little differently (you pay for their services by the hour, rather than per treatment!).Read more

Organised by the Publican’s Morning Advertiser and voted for by industry insiders this is the shortlist that really matters in the pub grub world. There are some things that I thought I’d nail by middle age.
Number one, it was part of my plan to have performed a daring, sexy image overhaul by now (nope). Number two, I’m supposed to be fluent in at least one language other than English (er, nope). And thirdly, I really expected myself to be an assured, relaxed party-thrower by now, able to knock out an effortless dinner soiree and a stylish round up of friends for glamorous, chinky-glassed, giggly get togethers.Read more
‘Please make a list of every possession you consider essential to your life‘ so begins The Girl Before, a psychological thriller by J.P. Delaney, out this month and already destined for the silver screen in a film directed by Ron Howard.
The novel comes after the huge success of female-centred psychological thrillers Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, (though, it would be nice to see something with ‘woman’ in the title for a change).Read more
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching (wahhhhh!). I always find it a tricky one to plan for, do you? I’m not massively keen on sitting in a restaurant along with a million other couples, gazing into each other’s eyes (Naff) playing romance-by-rote, being handed a soggy rose (Naff. And if you’re gonna do it, get me 24 will you?)… Red underwear? Double naff (and also a bit Kat Slater). Chocolate? Unoriginal (but edible at least).
So if you’re like me, and looking for something a bit less cringe/traditional and a bit more fun, here are some alternative, non-cheesy Valentine’s ideas that will help you feel the love…

Where were you in 1996? Bursting with enthusiasm for your nascent career? Thrilling at the bright lights of the big city? Tearing up any dancefloor, festival field and gig moshpit you stumbled across? (Me, I was a student doing all of the above). Whatever you were doing, you can’t fail to have clocked the vast cultural impact of Trainspotting. Danny Boyle’s iconic Brit flick of that year introduced a motley Edinburgh crew of strangely lovable rogues, druggies and psychopaths, led by Ewan McGregor as skinny jean-ed heroin addict, Renton.Read more
