Celeb skin secret!

CACI is the facial that all the celebs love (and don't worry - it's totally pain-free!) Muddy went to try it out and guess which singing star we spotted when we were there?

Where does gorgeous singer and stage star Alexandra Burke go when she needs a facial fit for a celebrity? Canterbury Cosmedics apparently! Our fave X Factor winner is currently starring in The Bodyguard musical touring the UK – and when they performed at The Marlowe in Canterbury this is where she went for some skin TLC. Her facial of choice? Celeb favourite the CACI facial of course (she does always have the most incredible glowing skin). So we felt we had to try it out.

For some time now, it’s been the skin treatment that everybody’s talking about, so it was high time that we checked out the CACI (pronounced KC) facial for ourselves and where better place to head than the ‘go to Caci clinic’ Canterbury Cosmedics at Spring Gardens Clinic in Canterbury– and THE place in Kent for this specialized treatment.

For those you not already in the know – CACI is a pain-free facial which uses simultaneous LED light therapy combined with a micro-current to stimulate collagen production for an anti-ageing effect. CACI started in hospitals as a treatment for Bell’s Palsy as it was used to educate muscles to lift (and not drop) and is now deployed to tackle a host of anti-aging issues that may affect your face and body. Having recently reached a milestone birthday, I was up for whatever could be thrown at the situation.

The experienced team of therapists at Canterbury Cosmedics have been performing the ‘magical’ CACI facial for the past 19 years plus a heap of other anti-ageing treatments such as 3D lipo (contours, lifts and tightens the body), 3D skin tech (tightens loose skin and brightens the face), Hifu (a one off treatment which boosts collagen), IPL (helps with unwanted hair, sun damage, rosacea and broken capillaries), Resurx (treats scar tissue and stretch marks) and Yag laser

(treats unwanted leg veins and capillaries) so I do believe that the receptionist and I are going to be thick as thieves by the end of the year.

My CACI facial was ‘performed’ by Tracy who is 41 but looks about 15 years younger which is a pretty good start when someone is about to fiddle with your face. We chatted throughout the whole process as I was keen to learn and impart my CACI wisdom with you but apparently a lot of clients do nod off during it, so they really mean it when they say it is a non-invasive treatment.

Tracy started with her version of a ‘walk’ over my skin with the probes rubbing the conductive gel into my skin which felt just the right side of tingly and certainly not painful. She then upped the game and the probes jumped into quickstroke mode pushing along all areas of my face to combat sagging facial muscles but still it never felt intrusive or uncomfortable – just fascinating to realize how many muscles there actually are in your face. 43 apparently.

Tracy concentrated on one side of my face and mid-way through the facial, stopped and asked me to stick my tongue to each side of my cheek and it was truly astonishing to feel for myself how much firmer one side of the face felt which was also reflected in the ‘selfie’ I took where you can see how the face had noticeably been lifted on one side.

The process finished with hydro moisturizing cream which she then used the ‘feathering’ technique to push the product deeper into my skin to tighten and firm the skin. This did feel slightly more ‘tingly’ than before but all was quickly forgiven when I forecast the whole new me waiting to greet the world afterwards.

I also tried out this astonishing Hannibal Lecter mask which has built-in LED with a red light that boosts collagen production and a blue light to tackle antibacteria so an excellent solution for acne as well as the reduction of red patches on the face. Clients can also add on extra treatments on top of the Ultimate Facial such as the Wrinkle Comb which targets wrinkles by smoothing out fine lines and can also help with plumping out your top lip should you be looking for support in this area.

What I particularly enjoyed about my CACI facial was not only did it show immediate results which would only continue to improve with regular treatments (as you would with a gym to tone your body) but there was also NO blotchiness and you could put on make-up immediately, should you wish, so no one need know where you had disappeared off to during your lunch break.

I was hugely impressed with the team who pride themselves on offering you a 30-minute free consultation first before you engage in any activity, so they can design a bespoke treatment course just for you. It is important for them to gain a good understanding of your goals, time restraints and budget so they can put the best plan in place for you.

You can also be rest assured that you are in a salon that has 20 years’ experience within the beauty field and they have cutting edge technology, with medical papers to back up their claims, which are from recognized UK suppliers so NO cowboy operations here.

What we also like about Canterbury Cosmedics is that on top of the anti-ageing solutions, they also offer treatments that nurtures your body as well as tackles your wrinkles. You can benefit from Holistic treatments such as Hopi ear candles, Reflexology, Reiki as well as Colonic Hydrotherapy and Pregnancy massage performed by Sarah Lacey, also known as Healing Hands, who has a strong reputation in the area for this line of work.

I’ve yet to try Colonic Hydrotherapy but friends have raved about the benefits and the positive impact that it can bring to the digestive system and your general well-being, including increase of energy and concentration as well as decreasing the risk of colon cancer so one for the to-do list me-thinks.

Do not be deterred by the location as Canterbury Cosmedics is not positioned within the prettiest parts of Canterbury as it is set within the Wincheap estate BUT this is actually one of the clinic’s strengths as it can be a discreet spot if you do not wish anybody to know that you have discovered the miraculous cure for anti-ageing plus there is free parking and it’s easy to get to if you are coming off the A2.

Not for: Somebody who doesn’t like their face being touched and as a course of ten is recommended to fully tackle the wrinkles, it is not a cheap process (although cost-effective if you look at the bigger picture). It is also important to note that these solutions are not permanent.
