Fancy taking 10 years off your face? I reckon I may have found just the person to do it. Enter Ellie Hoskin and her team from Beautellies
Beautellies is a friendly, family-run businesses, founded by Ellie Hoskin and sitting pretty in an attractive white-washed building on Tenterden High Street. It’s roughly 15 mins from Cranbrook and 20 mins from Ashford in the other direction and once you’re in the town there’s a convenient, centrally located Waitrose car park from which it only takes around 5 mins to walk to the beauty salon.
If you don’t know Tenterden, it’s a very pretty little town with loads of gorgeous indie shops – particularly strong on interiors, being home to KAGU Interiors the winner of Best Interiors Store in the Muddy Awards 2018 and fellow Finalists Woodcocks.
Sitting in one of the more period properties on the road the salon is small and perfectly formed. There’s a nail bar at the front in the bay window, relaxing, neutral treatment rooms space – all pretty standard stuff. Ellie did my treatment and she’s particularly smiley and natural so I imagine she’ll put most people at ease.
She’s also, very importantly, a hugely knowledgeable excellent beautician – and it’s all about the beautician, right? Fancy interiors and decor don’t count for anything unless you get a great service.
Ellie is evangelical about Environ. I took one look at that face and thought I’d like one of those too, so I had the Environ Active Vitamin Face treatment (£64 for 1 hour) – basically a superdeep facial using sound waves to penetrate the most active forms of Vitamin A and C into the skin. It’s an active treatment rather than a zone-out one, but it’s quite a relaxing facial in its own way, not pinchy or unpleasant and Ellie’s hands are confident.
She carefully talks you through each stage of the process so you know what to expect and adds in a shoulder and neck massage towards the end so as to incorporate a relaxing element into the otherwise active facial treatment. I’m quite a fan of Environ myself, a product that unlike so many of the smoke-and-mirrors brands actually has science to back up its claims.
Just to let you know, there is a point in the treatment when your skin is brushed all over to produce a soft mask. You can choose if just your nose or your nose and mouth are left open which is important as some people are more relaxed about this kind of thing than others.
But if facials aren’t your bag but you like the sound of Ellie, she also offers Eyelash and Eyebrow Tint, Nouveau LVL lashes, waxing, Hot Stone Back Massage, Indian Scalp Massage and mani/pedi just to name a few…
Environ facials are increasingly effective with each treatment, so the salon tend to sell courses of 5 treatments and then you get an extra one (the 6th session) totally free. The results? Well see for yourself, (above). I’m rocking the slicked back I’ve-just-had-a-facial hairstyle and have absolutely no make up on so please don’t look too closely.
I found my skin significantly improved after just one session and I kid you not when I say I had half a dozen compliments on my skin over the following week. ‘Glowing’ and ‘youthful’ were two words used and considering I looked about 100 when I went in it’s like some kind of miracle.
THE MUDDY VERDICT
Good for: Environ fans (c’est moi); those looking for excellent customer care – Ellie’s manner is a winner. In my book £64 for an hour facial is good value if it’s this effective. (Cheaper than a face lift, right?)
Not for: Anyone wanting what I call a ‘fluffy facial’ – relaxing candles, massage and drifting off to sleep. This is a full on active treatment with electricity involved. Also if you’re at all claustrophobic you’ll probably struggle with the mask element.
