30% off luxury facial!

Enjoy a luxury facial at TBC Skin Atelier, a clinic created by one of the UK's leading medical skin experts!

I’m always on the hunt for treatments that will make my parched skin more perky. So when a friend, whose visage was looking particularly glowing and youthful, recommended TBC Skin Atelier I shot there faster than you can say midlife-skin-crisis.

This new boutique skin studio is situated directly opposite Hotel Du Vin on Crescent Road in the heart of Tunbridge Wells. Good news worth noting you can now park next door at the Crescent Car Park (which was restricted for a while) or use the Royal Victoria Place car park which is less than 5 mins walk.

The ‘TBC’ bit of the name stands for ‘The Banwell Clinic’ and Mr Paul Banwell is a top medical consultant and one of the UK’s leading Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeons, with a reputation for skin specialism. So by putting his name behind this clinic what you’re getting is all the expertise of a cosmetic clinic, but with treatments that are the most effective non-invasive alternatives.

It’s the sister store to The Banwell Clinic at The McIndoe Centre in East Grinstead, West Sussex, where they perform non surgical body sculpting treatments, non surgical facelifts, Super Hair Removal (SHR), dermal filler and wrinkle relaxing treatments.

It’s a small, stylish space with only one treatment room and a polished, medi-spa vibe. It’s also welcoming and relaxing too. There is low-key acoustic music – but no pan pipes, thank God (when I am queen of the world, they will be illegal). I actually fell asleep during the Dermalux part of my treatment (see below).

This is not a kind of aromatherapy and scented candle kind-of-place – it’s more no-nonsense and totally results driven. The focus here is on making your face look better. Which, let’s be honest, if you’re going to fork out £90 for a facial is what you want, no?

First I stuck my head in a little machine (all very quick and comfortable) to give a computerised skin analysis (see above). This tells you everything from where you’ve got most sun damage to how well your SPF protection is working.

I was in the very safe hands of ‘aesthetician’ Melissa who works across Mr Banwell’s two clinics and definitely knows her onions. Approachable, knowledgeable and super friendly – she ticked every box (see Melissa in pic, below right).

The room is a decent size and feature’s a snazzy Dermalux LED phototherapy machine, which wouldn’t like out of place on a spaceship and cost the same as a new family car.

First my skin is double cleansed then something called ‘gommage’ is applied (which buffs away dead skin cells, blackheads, bacteria and assorted grot) on the leaving my skin feeling beautifully smooth.

Vitamins and then a low level enzyme re-activator (Pyruvic Acid) was applied to my skin. Enzymes are basically the latest generation of chemical peels and target sun damage, pigmentation and acne or acne scarring.

Lastly a hyaluronic acid mask was applied and this is pushed into the deeper skin layers using ultrasound. Next it was time to crank up the Dermalux LED phototherapy machine (above), which has three different lights (blue, antibacterial, red for encouraging collagen and elastin and white for renewal of skin cells). It’s a bright light but you’re given an eye mask and in fact I found it so relaxing I fell asleep!

I have sensitive skin yet came out glowing and not pink at all. So although the treatment was at a deep level it was incredibly gentle and only involved a bit of tingling, rather than leaving me like looking like a beaten-up beetroot à la Samantha in that famous episode of Sex & The City (always my fear when peels are involved). Here I am after – a bit shiny (or glowing shall we say) but still school-run friendly…

TBC offers a variety of facials from the Lunch Time Skin Refresher, (which is a very reasonably priced £30 for 30 mins), to the one I opted for – the all-singing, all-dancing Rationale Epinova Photosonic Facial, (£150 for 90 mins). If you just want the Enzyme Reactivator treatment on it’s own it’ll cost £65 for 50 mins. And LVL Lashes will cost £45 for 60 mins. So really not bad prices for London-level facial.

BEST OF ALL if you quote ‘MUDDY’ when you call you can get a very generous 30% OFF a bespoke luxury facial!* Treat yourself (you totally deserve it) or invest in an early Chrimbo pressie for your friends/family members. They also offer gift vouchers here too – just sayin’!!

TBC Skin Atelier, 17 Crescent Road, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN1 2LU, Tel: 01892 538202

(*offer applies to a selected line of bespoke luxury facials.)
