Medieval madness at Leeds Castle

1

And I thought the biggest battle this Half Term would be between my Mudlets – over who has the master controller for the Wii computer or who was ‘breathing too loudly while eating breakfast’. But no, there’s been some proper legitimised, fighting going on over at Leeds Castle. Fully armoured knights battling it out in a real jousting competition, combat displays and try-it-yourself archery.

If you, like me, find your weekends filled with household chores, taxi-ing the kids round and, if you’re lucky, a hangover headache recovery period, then you probably don’t find the time to visit Kent’s historic castles as much as you’d like. But sometimes you just have to leave the overloaded washing basket, neck the Nurofen and grab the car keys – because some events are so special they’re not to be missed. And if your son is anything like mine (obsessed with weapons and gore) then you’ll be quids in with some serious brownie points.

The Grand Medieval Joust is going on all Bank Holiday weekend with a full programme of events that really gets the kids involved, and sees lots of people walking around in genuine full body knight’s armour and re-enacting sword-clanking, arrow-firing battle scenes – perfect for my Mini Muddies (aged 7 & 8) who had never seen anything like it before. Better still, they were sufficiently tired out afterwards, meaning bedtime was a doddle, leaving me in peace to enjoy a goblet of finest wine.
