Children will be given the chance to perform history for the grownups during this weekend event at Leeds Castle. The stories of Queens, Kings and historical heroes will be brought to life by children in entertaining productions assisted by professional actors and a costume wardrobe rivalling any West End show. The shows that youngsters will be performing this year will be, Robin Hood and the Silver Arrow, Horatio’s Last Hurrah! and What-ho Henry! If children don’t fancy participating in the performances there will also be an array of circus skills they can have a go at including; stilts, hula-hoops, diablos and spinning plates.

Victorian Family Fun Day, Ightham Mote, Sevenoaks, Thu 11 Aug
Experience a fun filled day of Victorian style activities at Ightham Mote and see how the Victorian owners of the estate, the Colyer-Fergussons used to live. There will be special quizzes, watercolour painting and games throughout the day to get the whole family interested in our ancestors. There will also be dressing up costumes provided so you can really get into the spirit of the day – what’s an experience day without dressing up?

Children’s Pottery Painting Workshop, Pick ‘n Paint a Pot, Cliftonville, Thu 11 Aug – Fri 12 Aug
Pick ‘n Paint a Pot are offering a huge variety of children’s pottery painting workshops to keep your little muddlets amused (and give you a short break) during the summer holidays. This week’s pottery painting workshops will be cube box painting on Thursday and plate painting on Friday. On Friday afternoons the studio also provide 500 grams of clay to create whatever your heart desires. The studio will also fire what you’ve made ready to be painted at a later date (all for £15 per person). Check online for more workshops during the holidays as this sounds like a nice day out for any prospective potters in your household.

Bugsy Malone, The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, Thu 11 Aug – Sat 13 Aug
Bugsy Malone could possibly be my favourite musical film to date due to its great mixture of lively songs and talented young cast. The Summer Youth Project will be taking to the stage to perform the comedy classic bringing a slice of New York mob life (with a twist) to Kent. Over 100 talented 9-19 year olds will be performing the story of Fat Sam and Dandy Dan’s gang rivalry using their weapon of choice the splurge gun. This slap stick comedy musical is a fantastic production the whole family can appreciate. There’s still tickets left but get them quickly before they go!

Chapterhouse Theatre Company will be presenting the classic tale of Peter Pan in the beautiful walled garden of Belmont House. Tonbridge Calling, Racecourse Sports Ground, Tonbridge, Sat 13 Aug
Tonbridge will play host to a fantastic new music festival that’s aim is to promote hope and celebrate the communities in the town. The free event will present an assortment of live music from artists including Orange Circus, We Ghosts, Bourne Valley Boys and Sam Dunstall. The event is also being backed by local businesses such as Suston’s Kitchen and Gurkha Planet. The Old Fire Station will also be open on the day providing the bar and a BBQ during the festivities. The organisers want Tonbridge Calling to ‘be a giant group hug to reassure those in doubt that their community cares.’ This is a fun event that’s giving back to the community. The weather forecast is looking sunny so don’t miss out on a great day!
