This year’s Herne Bay Festival theme is Rio 2016 Olympics so don’t forget to bring your feathers, sequins and glitter. Oh, and 19 (19!!) gold medals (and counting!)… In fact in the run up to the festivities, (Thu 18 Aug & Sat 20 Aug), you can take part in workshops to create your own Rio inspired lanterns for the opening night parade on Saturday 20 Aug. Bring your vibrant creations to the Carnival Parade and light up the seafront with your glowing artwork. Other attractions throughout the week includes Herne Bay Rocks Band competition and Sand Art Workshops and a Monster Crab Catching Competition. Accumulates with a spectacular finale Fireworks Display on Saturday 27th August.

Biddenden Tractorfest & Country Fair, Beech Lane Field, Biddenden, Sat 20 Aug – Sun 21 Aug
Back for its fourth year this summer, this will appeal more to those outdoorsy, game, petrol heads out there. Split into Large Arena for the grown ups and Small Arena for the minis. There’s a collection of tractors, classic cars and motorcycles that will be on show during the weekend. For everyone else there’s mini clay shooting competition (from £5 pp), circus workshop, archery, sheep sheering demonstrations, animal encounters and a great assortment of local crafts and refreshments stalls – including Biddenden Vineyards – which has to be a plus point.

North Weald Wine Tour, Hush Heath Estate & Herbert Hall, Sat 20 Aug
Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a wine buff? Or are you just interested in tasting the stuff? Either way this full day wine tour takes you to two of Kent’s finest vineyards. Starting at Marden Station the tours first stop will be the stunning setting of Hush Heath Estate. You’ll have time to walk around the beautiful vineyards, orchards and woodland of the grounds followed by a tour of the winery and a tasting session. A 2 course lunch will be served at The Goudhurst Inn, (a very decent pub that happens to be in my Little Black Book), before the tour moves on to Herbert Hall, a private vineyard that is offering exclusive access for this particular tour. Owner and winemaker Nick Hall will host this section of the tour offering plenty of knowledge on the art of winemaking and Herbert Hall’s particular speciality, organic sparkling wine.

Roll up! Roll up! One of the oldest circus families in the UK, Paulous Circus, is heading to Gravesend to put on a classic circus summer show. The family have been entertaining families since 1816 with a show that features clowns, acrobats, aerial skills, magic, wire walkers, jugglers, and unicyclists.

Milk Fest, The Milk House, Sissinghurst, Fri 26 Aug – Mon 29 Aug
Winner of Muddy Stilettos Best Boutique Stays in Kent, The Milk House is putting on ‘a full fat festival of food and music for all the family’. The fantastic four day event running throughout the August bank holiday will showcase the best food and drink from Kent producers with entertainment from talented local musicians thrown in for good measure. There’ll be cocktails, BBQ, face painting, bouncy castle and theatre. The Milk House will also be selling their popular Kentish bitter the Full Fat Festival Top on tap for £3 a pint. Sounds like something for everyone!
