The Muddy Guide: Thurs 5 – Wed 11 May

The beautiful grounds of King John’s Nursery is just a little hop across the Kent border and this weekend will play host to the annual Vintage Fair with stalls selling an eclectic range of home and garden goods. Check out Kent based company Cuckoohouse who will be selling quirky vintage finds, modern homewares and sophisticated up cycling. As King John’s nursery is in full bloom at the moment the gardens will also be looking spectacular.

Plant Support Workshop, Godington House & Gardens, Ashford, Sat 7 May


I am the exact opposite of green fingered. Plants literally expire as I walk past (I’m trying to improve, I really, really am). If you’re a bit more of a budding horticulturist than me you might enjoy this course about the different methods of plant support to improve the quality of your foliage. Get down and dirty with head gardener, Viv Hunt, and make your own willow obelisk or frame with local craftsman, Alan Sage.

Whitney- Queen of The Night, The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, Thu 5 May


The iconic singer’s incredible back-catalogue gets an airing in this award winning production featuring West End star Rebecca Freckleton. I guess it goes without saying that Freckleton’s powerhouse renditions will include; I Wanna Dance With Somebody, One Moment In Time, I’m Every Woman and what’s a Whitney tribute without I Will Always Love You.

The All-Stars Stand Up Tour, Theatre Royal, Margate, Sat 7 May


If you fancy a night of full on comedy, pop over to Margate for The All Star Stand-Up Tour that’s presenting four talents of comedy. Performances will feature Sony award winning panellist of ‘Mock the Week’ Gary Delaney, star of BBC1’s ‘The Magicians’ Pete Firman, Kiwi native Jarred Christmas and ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ team captain Sean Hughes. Phew! There’s sure to be some belly laughs in order with these tricksters as the night’s entertainment.

Sandwich Food Fayre, Sandwich Town, Sat 7 May – Sun 8 May

The fabulous, historic town of Sandwich plays host to street performers and purveyors of all things edible for this 2 day annual food fayre – including over 50 food and drink stalls from around the UK and Europe. Sunday is the beginning of national Sandwich week as well (by pure coincidence) so stock up on fresh produce for a week’s worth of sarnie eating!

 Legally Blonde – The Musical, Margate Winter Gardens, Wed 11 May – Sat 14 May


The original pink and fluffy chick flick tells the story of loveable blonde Elle Woods and her pursuit of becoming a lawyer while tackling issues of stereotype and snobbery. The film has been transformed into an international award winning musical suitable for all ages (so long as you like pink and fluffy).

Motors by the Moat, Leeds Castle, Maidstone, Sat 7 May – Sun 8 May


This is the perfect weekend pit stop for anyone with an interest in cars. Hundreds of vintage, high performance and classic cars from around the world will be displayed on the Castle lawns with a mixture of extra entertainment including a Lightening McQueen look-a-like. The event will be included in the normal castle admission tickets.

Meet Padington Bear, Spa Valley Railway, Tunbridge Wells, Sun 8 May


Sruggling with ideas to keep the mini muddies happy this weekend? You could take your little ones to meet the famous Padington Bear. The train will leave the old Tunbridge Wells West station and take a round trip allowing a 30 minute stop to meet the man Padington himself. Each child will get their own balloon, steam trains will operate all day and you can even visit the train cab with the driver.

Max & Ivan: The End, Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, Fri 6 May


Comedy duo Max & Ivan’s newest tour has been receiving rave reviews from critics and is on it’s way to Canterbury for a one show gig. The recent winners of Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award are taking on their first UK tour with a multi character, narrative sketch comedy performance telling the story of a set-in-its-ways town called Sudley-On-Sea.
