Where is best for family fun or famous faces? Get into the Christmas spirit with Muddy’s definitive guide to the best pantos in Kent and beyond…

BEST FOR… Family fun!

Aladdin, The Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells, Fri 8 Dec to Wed 3 Jan

Oh yes it’s the thrilling story of a boy, a lamp and a genie. Aladdin is one of the most popular pantomimes of all and it’s a personal favourite because it’s just as good for boys as girls. (I once watched a 7-year-old boy ball his eyes out because his mum told him he had to sit through Cinderella!) With plenty of songs, jokes and excitement to keep everyone in your family happy this one looks like a fab all-rounder.

BEST FOR…Famous faces!

Peter Pan, The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, Fri 24 Nov ‐ Sun 14 Jan

Another one that will appeal just as much to your sons and daughters, Peter Pan, even stars some faces that you might well recognise too Shaun Williamson (EastEnders and Extras) and Wendi Peters (Coronation Street). And if your kids, like mine have been glued to CBBCs for years, they’ll be delighted to see children’s favourites Gemma Hunt (CBeebies’ Swashbuckle), David Ribi (Channel 5’s Milkshake) and Samantha Dorrance (CBeebies’ The Tale Of Mr Tumble). The croc is ticking so hook your tickets now! *snigger*…

FURTHER AFIELD…

Dick Whittington, London Palladium, Sun 10 Dec – Fri 12 Jan

Filed under ‘go big or go home’, we have London Palladium’s offering, starring Julian Clary and Elaine Paige. Oh yeah! And you thought Su Pollard was camp. Fans of ’80s cheesiness will be thrilled to hear that Gary Wilmot co-stars alongside Nigel ‘The Charmer’ Havers.

Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella, Sadler’s Wells, London

Matthew Bourne’s productions are always stunning and this is no exception. He transposes the story of Cinderella to London during the Blitz, rebooting it as a wartime romance between our heroine and an RAF pilot. The reviews have been of the rave variety, with Lez Brotherston’s sumptuous costumes and sets winning Olivier Award.

Cinderella on Ice, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, London, Fri 17 Nov – Mon 1 Jan

No rest for Cinders! Here she is again, this time donning ice-skates, as one of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland’s new attractions. In this show, her slinky blade moves attract the amorous attentions of the Lord Mayor’s son, much to her step-sisters’ annoyance. There’s loads of whizzy lifts, jumps and throws, plus wowzers special effects.
