See the Bolshoi performing live from Moscow without having to brave sub zero temperatures in one of those hats with earflaps. The company’s staging of Swan Lake is being broadcast to various Sussex cinemas on Sun 5 Feb. Chichester, Brighton, Uckfield, Crawley, East Grinstead, Eastbourne and more will have screenings, and if you live near Tunbridge Wells you’ll have a second bite of the cherry with an ‘encore’ on Thurs 9 Feb. Harry Potter Book Night, Waterstones, Maidstone, Thu 2 Feb
Calling all aspiring witches and wizards! Waterstones is holding an evening of fun activities, games, quizzes and readings from everyone’s favourite book. This magical event begins with the Sorting Hat organising everyone into their suitable house followed by each house competing in an assortment of activities for house points. Get stuck into a Herbology class, edible wand making and owl racing. Snacks will be provided throughout the evening inspired by the scrummy goodies featured in the books. Fancy dress is encouraged so remember to grab your broomstick and cloak!

His tour dates have just been announced, locally they are: Orchard Theatre, Dartford 9 April; Central Theatre, Chatham 25 April; Margate Winter Gardens 26 April; Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury 29 May; Assembly Halls, Tunbridge Wells 20 Sept. Politics seems to be the hot topic of conversation more than ever at the moment. In recent months we’ve had a new lady PM in the UK, the uncertainty of Brexit and of course the surprise vote for Trump in the US elections. The Marlowe People’s Company will be presenting a group of dark yet hilarious plays based on themes from modern British politics, exploring what shapes our society and how different sources can affect our views. This sounds like a great mixture of informative comedy that any politics whizz must not miss!

David Hockney – Tate Britain, London – 9 Feb to 29 May
David Hockney is almost 80, and this exhibition gathers together an extensive selection of his most famous works celebrating his achievements in painting, drawing, print, photography and video across six decades. Hockney continues to change his style and ways of working – from his portraits and images of Los Angeles swimming pools, through to his drawings and photography, Yorkshire landscapes and most recent paintings – some of which have never been seen before in public.
