Top 10 foodie finds

Have you discovered these yet? Check out these fab foodie finds that are off the grid, hidden away or popping up near you...

Stark, Broadstairs

The only Michelin-starred restaurant in Thanet, the remodelled log-cabin run by Ben and Sophie Crittenden, is the perfect intimate setting for your next date night! This quirky restaurant should be next on your list with it’s frequently changing, seasonal six course tasting menu for £65 (with optional wine flight for £35).

Deal Pier Kitchen, Deal

This fab eaterie at the end of Deal’s iconic pier is one of THE best spots in Deal for brunch with all of the well-loved classics (smashed avo on sourdough toast and a very fine fry-up) plus loaded sweet potatoes, sweetcorn fritters and their DPK pancakes – we would also recommend checking out their new Steak & Lobster nights on Fri and Sat evenings! You will not be disappointed by the view from this RIBA award-winning structure, the interior lives up to expectation too with wooden slatted ceilings and stunning turquoise tiles all around you – even with plates to match. With exceedingly good coffee, a tasty lunch menu and a dedicated Brunch booze drinks list, why would you ever want to leave?

The Small Holding, Kilndown

Situated in one acre of beautiful Kent countryside with the mission of growing, rearing and foraging as much of the food that’s cooked as possible is at its heart – hence the name! This award-winning restaurant has had food critics from all over the country drooling into their plates. Chef owner Will Devlin was recently recognised as Chef to Watch in the Good Food Guide 2020 and credited with ‘an instinctive feel for food’. The sunny decked area is perfect for weekend walkers and inside there’s a cosy bar with wooden floorboards and old farm equipment decorating the walls. This is definitely one for the foodies!

Frog & Scot, Deal

A lively French bistro in the heart of the coastal town of Deal with a daily-changing exciting menu. The past few months its had a chic makeover with a separate cocktail bar, a contemporary deco-inspired feel and even a new head chef, Harry Johnson, formerly at the Michelin-starred La Bourse et la Vie in Paris.

The Curious Eatery, Boughton Monchelsea

Think rustic decor, a friendly atmosphere and fresh, vibrant food. This brilliant little restaurant is set up in what was a disused pub in Boughton Monchelsea, so south of Maidstone and just north of Sutton Valence. With a lunch and dinner menu, a new inside bar, cool supper clubs, food boxes delivered to your door, pizza menu – and even capacity for smaller, intimate weddings – there is nothing that these two super talented sisters can’t turn their hand to. We’re sure you’ll love it as much as we do.

Pickup Pintxos, Folkestone

Basque-inspired cooking and ingredients from Gianni Modena in Folkestone, the restaurant won’t be open now for dining in until next year but the takeaway counter has a mouth-watering selection of hot and cold plates. We’d recommend choosing a few foodie delights and eating out on the Harbour Arm with the beautiful sea views! You are welcome.

Ouma’s Kitchen, Margate

Meet this new gem! Owned by Brenda (‘Ouma’), born and bred in South Africa, is bringing the hearty flavours to Margate’s freshest highstreet. The cafe is a stylish three-floor space with a small pavement terrace. Their menu is constantly changing so you’ll have to check their Instagram for the latest updates. Ouma’s is also extending their 20% discount on all fresh breakfast and lunch items from Tues to Sat until the end of September!

Flotsam & JetsamBroadstairs

Wyatt & Jones‘s pop-up is proving to be a smash hit! This cute cafe serves; espresso coffee, fresh juices, all-day brunch, freshly baked pastries and cake – including vegan options as well! Their legendary Supper Clubs aren’t going ahead for now but make sure you keep your eyes pealed for their return.

The Rose, Deal

In the heart of vibrant Deal, The Rose is a very chic seaside destination with seriously good food. Stay the night in one of their eight uniquely styled rooms – we’ll take Room 4 complete with a roll top bath and it was featured in The Times‘ 30 most romantic hotel rooms in the UK! Then dine in the sun with the Tuscan-style courtyard garden complete with a beautiful olive tree – divine!

Space 7 Pop-Ups, Folkestone

Space 7 is an independent art gallery, bar and event space at the heart of Folkestone’s creative quarter. They host regular art exhibitions, DJ nights plus a rotating schedule of pop-ups from the town’s most esteemed outlets. You can’t go wrong with their on-trend cocktail lists and there’s plenty of socially distancing seating inside and outside.
