Food Village, Faversham

For those who are in the foodie-know, you’ll already know about Macknade’s brand new Food Village at their Faversham flagship store. But if you don’t, you can expect authentic Italian pizza to home-cooked Indian cuisine, there’s something for everyone to enjoy (including four-legged family members)! Take a look at the menu here.

PLUS Every Thurs – Sun, The Food Village is also home to Kent’s most vibrant independent traders, showcasing authentic, traditional dishes and modern, fusion delights including; Karara (Kent’s much loved Indian chef, Paul Babra) and Silver Birch Fine Foods (Jamaican and Japanese influences). Arya, Ramsgate

This family-run, hidden gem awaits you, sitting in the heart of town Arya in Ramsgate (above The Ravensgate Arms Pub) offers up amazing tapas style dishes, with small and large plates to choose from, with a warm, welcoming vibe. Life on High, Sevenoaks

Life on High is a specialty coffee and pro-plant cafe, with a wholesome and sustainable menu, based on Sevenoaks High St. You won’t want to miss their Cocktails & Tapas nights which are starting again from 17 May. Book in now to avoid disappointment.

Moretto’s Italian Cafe & BBQ Pop-Up, Tenterden

Moretto’s is a restaurant and pop-up BBQ truck in Tenterden, run by Gerry Avena, who’s had over 35 years working as a chef and restauranteur – we love his authentic Italian cooking! At their Cafe on Sayer’s Lane, they serve coffee, alongside a breakfast and daytime menu with hand-made pastas, Mediterranean salads and sandwiches, including the famous Moretto’s Meatballs on ciabatta. You can catch their BBQ Truck at Old Diary Brewery every Saturday also on Tenterden High St every Fri and Sat from 5pm. Let’s go!

Stark, Broadstairs

The only Michelin-starred restaurant in Thanet, the remodelled log-cabin run by Ben and Sophie Crittenden, is the perfect intimate setting for your next date night! This quirky restaurant should be next on your list with it’s frequently changing, seasonal six course tasting menu for £65 (with optional wine flight for £35). They will be open for bookings from Weds 5 Aug, for tables of two only at slots 6pm or 8:30pm. Book now!

The Curious Eatery, Boughton Monchelsea

Think rustic decor, a friendly atmosphere and fresh, vibrant food. This brilliant little restaurant is set up in what was a disused pub in Boughton Monchelsea, so south of Maidstone and just north of Sutton Valence. With a lunch and dinner menu, a new inside bar, cool supper clubs, food boxes delivered to your door, pizza menu – and even capacity for smaller, intimate weddings – there is nothing that these two super talented sisters can’t turn their hand to. Le Coq Au Van, Sevenoaks

You’ll want to know about this converted vintage horse box serving corn-fed rotisserie chicken across Sevenoaks and surrounding areas! From Roasts, Katsu Chicken Burgers and Char Sui Pork Belly on Bao Buns, this is no ordinary chicken van. You can catch them at The Rifleman Pub in Sevenoaks every weekend, check their locations here. Bay Leaf Coffee House & Pop-Up, Herne Bay

This Sri Lankan cafe is tucked away on the seafront of Herne Bay, where you can expect delicious coffee, sandwiches, scones, pastries, cakes, curries and tasty vegan specials. You won’t want to miss their summertime pop-up by the pier, where their street-food specials embrace twists on seaside takeaways like cod goujons, scampi bites with coconut curry sauce and loaded fries. Or try their burrito crammed with Sri Lankan curry, rice, salad and a tangy coconut sambol. Yum!

Deal Pier Kitchen, Deal

This fab eaterie at the end of Deal’s iconic pier is one of THE best spots in Deal for brunch with all of the well-loved classics (smashed avo on sourdough toast and a very fine fry-up) plus loaded sweet potatoes, sweetcorn fritters and their DPK pancakes. They’re currently serving hot food from their Takeaway Shack (Mon-Sun) so grab some coffee, hot food and take a seat on the beach.

But there’s not long to go now! They’ll be reopening on 17 May and don’t forget to check out their Steak & Lobster nights on Fri and Sat evenings! You will not be disappointed by the view from this RIBA award-winning structure, the interior lives up to expectation too with wooden slatted ceilings and stunning turquoise tiles all around you – even with plates to match. 

The Small Holding, Kilndown

Situated in one acre of beautiful Kent countryside with the mission of growing, rearing and foraging as much of the food that’s cooked as possible is at its heart – hence the name! This award-winning restaurant has had food critics from all over the country drooling into their plates. Chef owner Will Devlin was recently recognised as Chef to Watch in the Good Food Guide 2020 and credited with ‘an instinctive feel for food’. The sunny decked area is perfect for weekend walkers and inside there’s a cosy bar with wooden floorboards and old farm equipment decorating the walls. This is definitely one for the foodies! Eat The Farm, Sevenoaks & Plaxtol

Street-food company Eat The Farm is well-known for their amazing burgers from their vintage VW Campervans. They create American style burgers using fresh produce, all from Kent, sourcing their ingredients direct from famers and producers. You can find them at festivals, sporting and private events – also in Plaxtol and at Bradbourne Lakes in Sevenoaks most evenings. Find out where they’ll be in May here. Pre-order on 07540378457.

David Brown’s Deli, Whitstable

Catch this delicious Pop-Up Deli Van at The Old Coal Yard in Whitstable Weds-Sun, 9am-3pm and at the Food Market every Sat. Serving delicious sausage rolls, ham & cheese croquettes, deli burgers, fish finger buns, soups, salads! No day is the same as their menu’s are constantly changing, so stay up to date and follow them on Instagram for their Current Daily Menu. Want to experience the goodness at home? They also deliver! Every Fri and Sat, just order between 10am-12noon and they’ll deliver the same day between 1-3pm. Call 07595390757.

Frog & Scot, Deal

A lively French bistro in the heart of the coastal town of Deal with a daily-changing exciting menu. The past few months its had a chic makeover with a separate cocktail bar, a contemporary deco-inspired feel and even a new head chef, Harry Johnson, formerly at the Michelin-starred La Bourse et la Vie in Paris. No need to wait for sunshine as their outside terrace is heated, book your table here.

Ouma’s Kitchen, Margate

Meet this new gem! Owned by Brenda (‘Ouma’), born and bred in South Africa, is bringing the hearty flavours to Margate’s freshest highstreet. The cafe is a stylish three-floor space with a small pavement terrace. Their menu is constantly changing so you’ll have to check their Instagram for the latest updates. Eat in from Tues 18 May!

Pickup Pintxos, Folkestone

Haven’t you heard about the basque-inspired cooking and ingredients from Gianni Modena in Folkestone? We know their restaurant in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter is opening very soon! But for now their takeaway counter has a mouth-watering selection of hot and cold plates. We’d recommend choosing a few foodie delights and eating out on the Harbour Arm with the beautiful sea views! You are welcome.

Flotsam & Jetsam, Broadstairs

Wyatt & Jones‘s pop-up is proving to be a smash hit! This cute cafe serves; espresso coffee, fresh juices, all-day brunch, freshly baked pastries and cake – including vegan options as well! Their legendary Supper Clubs aren’t going ahead for now but make sure you keep your eyes pealed for their return. Currently open for outdoor dining and take aways, weekdays 7:30am-4pm and weekends 8am-4pm.

The Rose, Deal

In the heart of vibrant Deal, The Rose is a very chic seaside destination with seriously good food. Stay the night in one of their eight uniquely styled rooms – we’ll take Room 4 complete with a roll top bath and it was featured in The Times‘ 30 most romantic hotel rooms in the UK! Then dine in the sun with the Tuscan-style courtyard garden complete with a beautiful olive tree – divine! They are now taking bookings from the 17 May onwards, book here.

Space 7 Pop-Ups, Folkestone

Space 7 is an independent art gallery, bar and event space at the heart of Folkestone’s creative quarter. They host regular art exhibitions, DJ nights plus a rotating schedule of pop-ups from the town’s most esteemed outlets. You can’t go wrong with their on-trend cocktail lists and there’s plenty of socially distancing seating inside and outside. They’re currently open for takeaway and outside seating.

    This is a brilliant article thank you. It’s inspired me to go explore other parts of Kent rather than stay local here in Tunbridge Wells
