Wouldn’t You Though?
Every year since having kids my summer swimwear of choice is all too often the tankini. The Audi of swimwear – safe and predictable. Honestly though, a little piece of me dies inside every time I put it on. It screams ‘MIDDLE-AGED MIDRIFF ON BOARD!!!’ more than anything else in my wardrobe.
I haven’t totally given up hope of finding ‘the one’. Every summer without fail I begin the annual pilgrimage round the shops looking for the swimming costume that’s going to transform me from Who Ate All The Winter Carbs to Heidi Klum. And every year, my darling husband tries to cut the shopping trip short with the same wise words of advice: ‘Buy the one you like! Who CARES if you have a tummy?!’
Ouch. Yes, I need to have a chat to him about his delivery, a tad harsh, but the message comes from a good place, I think. And deep down I know he’s absolutely right. Nobody cares about my wobbly tummy or that I forgot to shave my legs, or the fact I didn’t get around to a fake tan so look like an underdone piece of toast – they are way too busy thinking about their own little foibles.
So, this year, I’ve decided I’m going to stop giving a toss, and buy what the hell I like. And I’ve found it at Simply Beach in Faversham, where cool German swimwear brand, Watercult, is currently in the Summer Sale. (If you’re after one too you’ll have to move at lightening speed – they are selling out fast!)
I love it because all the swimwear is bang on trend without being too ridiculously high/low cut or flimsy. There are some cool mash-ups like animal print and Breton stripes; Batik (yes, it’s back); Botanical (pass me a Pina Colada) and there are cover ups in the range too – just in case your new-found confidence takes a day or two to kick in.
For the perfect fit, Watercult come in cup sizes (all hail that German engineering). Plus, you can buy separate styles and sizes in tops and bottoms. So whether you’re Kim Kardashian on the bottom and Keira Knightley up top (or vice versa) – you’ll get a size that fits. And if you’re Heidi Klum all over, then please *smiles sweetly* don’t stand too close to me at the poolside bar. Happy hols! x
