Gotta Have It

Behold, the hottest, hand-crafted chimenea you'll ever see. A sexy, architectural, art form - that adds a whole heap of style to summer evenings under the stars

One of the big benefits of summer is making the most of those long, light evenings outdoors (praise be!) whether it’s just a glass of rosé under the stars with the cat on your lap, or a full blown, guest-heavy BBQ/cocktail extravaganza. But the UK weather doesn’t always play ball, and you can rarely sit outdoors beyond 9pm without the castanet accompaniment of your own chattering teeth. Hence the huge popularity of the garden chimenea to take the chill off the cool night air.

I have long hankered after something suitably rustic and chic to place on the Muddy patio, but a bit more stylish than your average traditional clay chimenea. And, behold! I’ve discovered the hottest chimeneas you’ll ever see, made by the Maidstone-based Barefoot Welder no less. A sexy, architectural, art form – that adds a whole heap load of style to evenings entertaining under the stars.

The sleek, metal beauty I’ve got my eye on is the handiwork of The Barefoot Welder, aka Mark, who can turn his hand to commissions on just about anything. Mark specialises in all kinds of bespoke metal work, creating stunning, unique pieces thanks to his god-given talent (these scream design flair, do they not?) and attention to detail (he makes client consultation a priority to ensure each piece is exactly what they wish for). Prices start from £395.

His other creations include interior statement pieces, such as this radiator chair, below. So if you’re into unique accessories for your home, or architectural garden furniture that will turn your neighbours green with envy, definitely check out his work.

And are his feet really bare? Well, yes, it seems so. Take a goosey gander for yourself at this piccie, above. So chop up the wood and marinate those chicken thighs – I’m investing in this outdoor heating masterpiece.
