Kids: the best thing about summer camp

Parents and kids are going mad for Ultimate Activity Camps this summer. Could they be the perfect cocktail of outdoor fun and affordable childcare? Take a look for yourself...

Finding a summer camp that gets the thumbs up from the kids isn’t always easy, so we’ve gone straight to the horse’s mouth for this one with a bunch of kids who’ve used Ultim1ate Activity Camps. Know them? (the camps, not the kids!).

They take place in 35 top private schools around the south of England during the school holidays, so there are super-spangly facilities, indoor and out, and a mind-blowing array of 40 activities for 4-14 year olds with a strong emphasis on sports and outdoor activities so it’s a brilliant way to raise the heart rate and pull them away from the triumvirate of TV, gaming and phones to actually, y’know, interact with other humans. Expect the usuals of football and swimming but also new for this year is ‘Combat Archery’, a winning combo of Dodgeball and Archery for over 8s, that should satisfy any Hunger Games fans.

Sounds too good to be affordable? Actually nope. It’s £49 per day / £222 per week with the ability to throw on early drop-off and late pick-up for another £7. Even if you don’t have the exact dates now, you can always move dates up to 14 days before your booking.

Tempted? See what the kids think…

“The instructors are so much fun! My favourite activities are zorbing, swimming and playing team games. I like making new friends at camp too.” Max, age 9

“I love hanging out with friends all day at camp and do activities like trampolining, combat archery and fencing. I’ve been going since I was 8 and still enjoy going now!” Nicole, age 12

“My favourite thing at camp is pedal karts because I feel like I’m driving. The instructors are fun too.” Matilda, age 8

“Ultimate camps are cool because you get to try new things like combat archery and also some of my favourite things like Wide Games. I’ve met some new friends too which was good.” Rufus aged 11

Bookings are COVID-secure, with full refunds or credits offered if the camp can’t go ahead and a credit goes to households who have to self-isolate during a camp. There will also be appropriate COVID measures in place including social distancing, bubbles, use of masks and regular hand washing. Check out the local camp locations and dates here.
