Small, perfectly-placed prep school by-the-sea with an ideal mix of modern, relaxed teaching alongside traditional, old-school standards. It’s also one of the most genuinely ‘family-run’ schools I have visited. Take a look and you’ll see what I mean! Walthamstow Hall (or Wally Hall as it is most often referred to) is one of the oldest girls’ schools in the country – read the Muddy review here. Steeped in history yet with a very modern and innovative attitude to education, Kent College in Canterbury is a strong contender for the next generation, read our review here. Don’t take our word for it! Attend their Boarding Virtual Open Morning on 8 May or arrange your own personal visit, where you’ll be taken on a tour of the school by a pupil and get to meet the Headmaster and one of the Admissions staff.
If you are looking for a co-educational school with the prestigious wow factor, then St. Edmund’s School is possibly the one for you. St. Edmund’s is well-known for its Performing Arts reputation, not least helped by the fact that Orlando Bloom was a former pupil here, and the rumour goes that it has the biggest non-professional stage in Kent. An independent school looking after children from 2- 11, positioned just outside the pretty village of Wye. This is a school that is very proud of its ‘family’ atmosphere with an emphasis on the importance of trying and a very inclusive nature when it comes to sport, music and drama. Three years after my first visit this popular rural prep goes back under the Muddy microscope… So what did I find? Dulwich Prep Cranbrook is a rural prep school located in (you guessed it!) Cranbrook. The school sits in 50 acres of beautiful Kent countryside and it’s been cleverly designed to actually function as three smaller schools in one, allowing each child to be known and looked after individually. A strong offering for anyone interested in a single-sex education for their son(s), great grounds and facilities all tucked away in the leafy suburbs of Sevenoaks. Want to know more? Small, hidden-gem of an independent prep school for boys and girls, sitting on the edge of Hildenborough. With only 100 pupils and 28 acres of gorgeous grounds, it has probably the best ratio of facility per child. You can read the Muddy Review – but this is one school you just have to go see for yourself! Bang in the centre of T.Wells, it’s got great outdoor facilities, the green spaces of a country school! It’s perfect if you are commuting into London or if you already live in Tunbridge Wells.
