Looking for inspiration for a family outing with cuteness appeal thrown in for good measure? We are really excited to discover Alpaca Annie in the heart of the Kent countryside in Romney Marsh. Annie bought her first Alpaca, Pavlova back in 2009 and her initial hobby has now turned into a growing herd and one of the UK’s top animal experiences.

Alpacas are docile animals and lots of fun to hang out with. They are funny, intelligent, docile and affectionate –  time spent in their company is highly therapeutic – and they love nothing better than socialising and trekking.

TREKKING

These cheeky chappies are happily halter trained (and love a carrot!) so everyone can enjoy a stroll in the serene surroundings of Romney Marsh. The two hour experience includes a one hour trek and an informative talk from the top herds woman, plus any questions and a line up of activities with your new furry friend. Hand feed and interact with the Alpacas throughout the experience (and take your obligatory Alpaca selfie!). Prices start at £25.

MEET

For those with smaller legs or that don’t fancy the trek, there is an opportunity for an Alpaca meet and greet session from £8.50. This includes a short talk from a resident expert, plus hand feeding and photo opportunities. The meet and greet option is perfect children under 14 (who are unable to walk their own Alpaca for health and safety reasons).

ADOPT

How about your very own Alpaca? If you have fallen in love, then you can adopt an Alpaca for a year and learn all about these adorable herd animals and visit them on the Farm. Each adoption purchased comes with a lovely adoption pack and a selection of Alpaca gifts. If you are serious about Alpacas then you can actually buy your own halter trained, well behaved, lovable, non-breeding male alpacas for guardianship or as pets (and they can help you mow the lawn!). Alpaca Annie offers a full vetting and support package to ensure you are ready for the commitment.

EAT

After all the Alpaca action, grab a delicious bite at the onsite café, Fennel. There are homemade sweet and savoury foods, and a range of hot and cold drinks which you can enjoy on their benches and picnic area. There is the option to call or email ahead to place your order ahead of your experience.

SHOP

Alpaca products are hypoallergenic (so perfect for asthma and allergy sufferers). The fibre is similar to sheep’s wool in many ways, yet it is much lighter, softer and contains no lanolin. The Alpaca has a thick, sumptuous coat that grows naturally in over 40 shades from ivory to black, and every grey and brown shade between, meaning they come in lovely natural shades without the need for harsh dyes. The shop at Alpaca Annie has a gorgeous selection of socks, yarn, gifts and homeware. There is also a fabulous selection to buy at the on line shop.

Alpaca Annie is a brilliant family day out. Do consider visiting as part of a weekend break to explore the area. Romney Marsh is spitting distance (actually, that’s llamas, apparently these guys very unlikely to target humans) from plenty of fabulous beaches, pubs and local attractions.
