Chatham Historic Dockyard
Muddy says: Celebrating everything associated with the great age of sail, this landmark venue makes a great day out. The exhibition is all really interactive, there’s always new stuff happening and three massive, MASSIVE warships to explore. What more do you want?!
You may well recognise The Historic Dockyard Chatham from the tele – it has featured heavily on Call The Midwife as well as other film and TV and it now offers official Call the Midwife tours!
2017 marked its 400th anniversary and Chatham Historic Dockyard continues to put on a packed calendar of events designed to entertain all ages in your family! My son and his friends loved it here when I took them around the 80 acre site (which includes 2 guided tours, 3 historic ships, temporary exhibitions, galleries, gardens and more…)
There is always plenty to see and do including Pirate’s Life For Me which is a V&A touring exhibition from Museum of Childhood which looks at Pirates as characters in children’s culture and encourages your own little ones to dig around for treasure. Do they need any encouragement?
You can also…SET SAIL on your voyage of DISCOVERY…Immerse yourself in Command of the Oceans & Hearts of Oak digital theatre. Travel through time to 1806 and LEARN about Lord Nelson – a Chatham HERO! SWING through the hatches on HM Submarine Ocelot – the only British submarine you can explore in Kent! Explore main deck on the Victorian sloop, HMS Gannet and stand on the open bridge of HMS Cavalier.
From fabulous weddings to joyous celebrations, business meetings and luxurious VIP events, small intimate dinners to wondrous Christmas parties, The Historic Dockyard Chatham can cater for it all, creating memorable moments set in history.
Oh and top tip – don’t wear a dress if you’re thinking of clambering around the awesome warship submarine with your kiddies (trust me on this one!!)
