Chiddingstone Castle’s origins date back to the early 16th century, evolving over the centuries into the splendid structure we see today. The castle’s most notable custodian, Denys Eyre Bower, acquired the property in 1955 and dedicated his life to amassing an eclectic array of artefacts. So explore rooms filled with Japanese lacquerware, Samurai armour, ancient Egyptian relics, Stuart paintings, and Jacobite manuscripts, each item reflecting Bower’s passion for diverse cultures and histories.

Spanning 35 acres, the castle’s grounds are simply stunning and free to explore. Meander through the woodland trails, admire the serene lake, or relax in the meticulously maintained rose garden. No visit is complete without seeing the elegant Victorian Orangery.
TEA ROOM & GIFT SHOP
Thirsty after all that exploring? Indulge in the castle’s Tea Room, located in the cosy Buttery. Savour light lunches, traditional cream teas, and an assortment of homemade cakes, all served on charming bone china. The adjacent sunny courtyard provides a delightful setting for alfresco dining. Then browse the Gift Shop housed in the Well Tower, offering a curated selection of local produce, unique gifts, and crafts predominantly made in Kent.
WEDDINGS
Seeking a fairy-tale wedding venue? Chiddingstone Castle offers an idyllic setting. With exclusive use of the castle and its grounds, couples can tailor their special day to their desires. Ceremonies can be held in the Grade II listed Victorian Orangery, the majestic Great Hall with its Tudor heritage, or the intimate White Rose Room. The stunning backdrops, including the rose garden and lily-covered lake, provide endless photo opportunities. The castle’s experienced team ensures that each wedding is unique, offering flexibility and support throughout the planning process.
Welcoming visitors from 1 March to 31 Oct, opening its doors on Wednesdays to Sundays from 11am to 5pm (last entry is 4:15pm, closed Mon & Tues). The Tea Room and Gift Shop operate during the same hours. While the castle is closed during the winter months, the grounds remain open year-round, inviting guests to enjoy the natural beauty of the estate. A £3 donation is appreciated for parking, contributing to the upkeep of this historic treasure.
