Galapagos at The Old Vine, Cousley Wood, East Sussex
We're super excited to tell you about this authentic Latin American dining in a pretty 16th century rural country pub. Great for families, sunny days and walking to Bewl Water...
Having driven past The Old Vine over many years we were super excited when the pretty pub got a fresh lease of life under new ownership. Better still this is a completely unique offering – authentic Latin American dining in a 16th century rural country pub. It couldn’t be more original and Muddy.
Guests enjoy a blend of Latin-American ingredients along with fresh, locally sourced produce, with a flavour that they won’t find elsewhere. The menu features a variety of dishes from South America, especially Argentina, Peru, Brazil and Ecuador.
Having travelled extensively throughout South America, Europe and across the UK for over 20 years, head chef, Andrés, picked up his hand-crafted cooking techniques that are at the heart of the dishes he and his team serve at Galapagos today.
Andrés, says: ‘Growing up in Loja, Ecuador, I earned my cooking stripes alongside my most treasured culinary icons – my mum and grandmothers. Large family gatherings called for creative feasting, and I witnessed first-hand the magic that takes place when you bring together friends, family, and food. This has stayed with me throughout my own culinary journey.’
With his father’s vibrant oil paintings on the walls (he’s a well known artist back home), a light, bright dining space and pretty little beer garden (with a colourful mural out here too) Galapagos has a wonderful vibe. It makes a great summer time destination as it’s within walking distance from Bewl Water – do a loop then treat yourself to a spritzer in the garden and some sunshine on your plate.
