Hotel du Vin, Tunbridge Wells

Muddy says: There are plenty of Hotel du Vins in the UK but this venue in Tunbridge Wells is full of enough local character and charm that it feels like a stand-alone venue.

Lovingly converted from a Grade II-listed mansion, Hotel du Vin Tunbridge Wells boasts a certain character and charm, just like the very town in which it stands. In fact the hotel has become a bit of an institution in Tunbridge Wells and a well-known architectural landmark. With this in mind the design team behind the interiors have amplified the beautiful, authentic Georgian period detail and added their own characteristic twists throughout.

Stroll in the beautiful gardens, enjoy the clink of glasses on the terrace or dine al fresco with wonderful views across lush lawns to the ornamental gardens of Calverley Park. Take afternoon tea in the Tea Lounge. Flop into a leather sofa with your favourite tipple or explore the extensive wine list in the Burgundy Bar. Celebrate a family get-together or get wed in one of the quirky, private rooms. Relax with a digestif and fine cigar in the atmospheric Cigar Bothy. Tuck in to tasty, seasonal dishes in the trademark bistro.

There are 34 unique bedrooms (complete with monsoon shower or roll-top bath) and if you’ve got a four-legged friend he or she can come too. Visit in the day and man’s best friend will be welcomed in the hotel’s striking lounge, bar and pretty terrace area out the back. Stay the night and your pooch will be provided with a dog bed, bowl and doggie treat.

You’re just a minute’s stroll from Calverley Grounds park for walks. And the same distance from the shops. Potter down to The Pantiles for a brilliant selection of boutiques – this is the perfect place for a town-based stay.
