The Coastguard, Dover
Britain’s nearest pub to France, the Coastguard, sits beneath the White Cliffs and lays claim to 'the best view in Kent'. Go see for yourself - coastal visit ahoy!
A historic sea-side pub and restaurant in St Margaret’s Bay, near Dover, The Coastguard invites you to dive into superb food and drink while enjoying an epic view over the waves.
Technically Britain’s nearest pub to France, the Coastguard has kept watch on the sea-front for more than 300 years and, thanks to its refurbishment, you can now take in those spectacular bay views in style.
The pub’s look is inspired by maritime heritage, with a red and white lighthouse-style fascia and boat-shaped planters and lifebuoys dotted around the beautiful front verandah – where an outside bar and barbecue set the scene for summer.
It’s the perfect place for a family day out as it’s set right on the beach (rock pooling anyone?) and they have their own ice-cream van, The Dock of the Bay selling all kinds of ice-creams treats from local producers Solleys.
The Coastguard is a lively pub with so much going on – summer brings regular live music and entertainment on the terrace with BBQs which makes it a fantastic setting for al fresco dining.
In the winter, you can expect quiz nights to comedy dinner nights. Plus the pub offers a haven for those enjoying a bracing walk along Dover’s famed White Cliffs. Inside, the nautical theme continues, with a warm welcome offered to all who come aboard.
