Muddy says: A contender for Best Destination Pub at our 2019 Muddy awards – only 15 mins away from Whitstable – and a fast-growing reputation for seriously good food
In our humble opinion, a good pub needs a few essential ingredients and The Dove in Dargate ticks quite a lot of those boxes.
First stop: location. The Dove is set in the heart of the Kent countryside – 15 minutes from the pretty seaside town of Whitstable or 15 minutes from the beautiful city of Canterbury – so you are in the right surroundings for a bracing walk afterwards on the beach or a potter around the shops in Canterbury.
Second selling point: a fast-growing reputation for producing seriously good food. The Dove was refurbished and reopened in August 2018 under new ownership, Head Chef William Shenow-Brady and Manager Sophie Webb, so you have them to thank for a menu of fresh, seasonal and local produce that changes on a regular basis. Plus children are well catered for – phew.
And lastly it’s also about the ambience. There’s no tumbleweed upon arrival here or tables with stiff white tablecloths. Instead it’s all about a friendly welcome and stripped down tables with the focus on the food and a fun and friendly atmosphere. In addition, there is a lovely garden with plenty of outdoor seating for the summer months and a cosy log-burning fire inside for the colder months.
With an ever-changing menu that focuses on fresh, local and seasonal produce, we will just have to keep going back to try it all out….
