The White Horse, Boughton
Hidden gem of a boutique hotel with fabulous rooms and delicious restaurant. The White Horse is perfectly placed for exploring Kent.
We are excited to discover a hidden gem of a boutique hotel, The White Horse. Nestled in the tranquil village of Boughton-under-Blean this gorgeous hotel, restaurant and bar is the perfect spot for delicious meal or a weekend retreat. It is the perfect location to visit the historic city of Canterbury or trendy coastal Whitstable.
Formerly a 16th century coaching inn, this characterful building has recently been lovingly renovated by Natalie and Andrew Hennessy. Think beams, fireplaces and fabulous interiors. Natalie has impressive chef credentials, having started her career at The Dorchester in London before moving to Australia where she set up her own bistro. In 2018 Natalie and Andrew decided to move back to Kent and started the next phase of their adventure. They transformed the East Kent pub in Whitstable into a gastropub with a well deserved excellent reputation. Fate stepped in when the opportunity arose to renovate The White Horse. Natalie had fond childhood memories of Sunday lunches spent at the pub with connections to the area going back four generations to her Great Grandfather.
EAT & DRINK
We love the restaurant with its natural light, beams and inglenook fireplace. There is also a peaceful terrace for summer dining or a pre-dinner cocktail in the sun. Natalie’s classic French training and extensive travels are reflected in the delicious menu at the White Horse. Try the Crab Tostados, with hand picked crab meat from the South East coast, with zesty avocado and tamarind on a crunchy corn crisp (apparently perfectly paired with the signature Margarita cocktail – don’t mind if I do!). The lamb rump with wild mushroom risotto is also definitely not to be missed or end your meal in style with a lemon curd meringue.
The cosy bar with its velvet armchairs is the perfect area to relax with a drink after a hearty walk. There is a carefully curated cocktail menu and a premium range of wine, champagne, spirits and beers. If you can’t quite manage a lunch or dinner at The White Horse, perhaps you could squeeze in a cream tea? Prices start at £10 per person or £20 if paired with a glass of Gusbourne or Taittinger champagne. The breakfast menu is another reason to stay! Who doesn’t love smashed avocado and crumbled feta (served on Whitstable wild sourdough)?
There are 13 beautiful bedrooms to choose from at The White Horse. We love the pretty interiors, luxurious accessories and super comfortable beds. A perfect room for a weekend getaway, we recommend The Courtyard Room. Located in the coach house on the ground floor this has its own private courtyard, walk-in wet room and well behaved dogs are also welcome (prices start at £140). The Nightingale Suite in the eaves is also a pretty special place to stay, with a private staircase and free-standing Burlington bath (prices start at £270). If you are looking for a break for the whole family, there is also a family suite with interconnecting rooms (prices start at £200) or a twin room with two single and two trundle beds (suitable for two adults and two small children, prices start at £110).
If you’ve explored the area and fancy a bit of a well-deserved break. There is a peaceful treatment room, The Nest. Choose from a range of indulgent massages, facial treatments, skin and beauty care. Experienced therapists will ease your tensions away, leaving you feeling re-energised and refreshed.
With incredible food, beautiful interiors and a perfect location for exploring the Kent coastline and towns, The White Horse is an ideal venue for a weekend break or fabulous meal with friends and family.
