White & Faded, Canterbury
We love this inspiring, sustainable interiors brand. White and Faded will help transform your home into a calm and chic sanctuary.
We were really excited to discover White & Faded – and even more excited to introduce this store to our marvellous Muddy readers. An interiors brand from husband and wife team Dino and Janet Parrella-van den Berg. With a focus on restoring old homes and furniture, they bring new life to everything they do while introducing their clients to stylish, sustainable living.
The White & Faded story began in 2011 when Janet’s passion for all things white was turned into an exciting interiors brand. It all began with Dino and Janet’s own (truly inspiring and envy inducing!) restoration project of a country house built in 1767, right here in the Garden of England. They now have an Instagram Account (with 71k followers) and it’s definitely worthy of a Follow – a true source of serene, stylish inspiration. Janet’s blog is also our go-to for info on interiors trends and advice.
In 2018 Janet published her first book, Beauty Restored and for more interiors inspiration check out The White & Faded House, a gorgeous Airbnb in Waco, Texas.
SHOP IN STORE OR ONLINE
For those who love the look, Dino and Janet have launched a store, plus an online shop, which features a mixture of restored vintage products and new products from their collection, helping customers achieve their serene style on their own.
We think you’ll love actually experiencing the White & Faded store. Conveniently located in bustling Palace Street in Canterbury. It is the perfect spot for a browse before coffee or lunch with a friend in the City centre. There is plenty of inspiration to transform your home with elegant accessories, French ticking linen and gift ideas.
Where possible they upcycle items breathing new life into them and restoring their beauty. And you can learn the restoration techniques, so you can apply them to your own home, in Janet’s digital academy (relaxed, interactive online courses – see below). Any other items in the store that are new are ethically sourced and environmentally friendly – made from a hand-picked selection of artisans.
The on-line store offers a great selection of home goodies. Our favourites are the white linen pillowcases and French furniture. There is also a flagship store planned in the USA in 2022 and a recent ‘shop in shop’ in The Found Cottage in Michigan and Paris Vintage Market in Colorado.
SUSTAINABILITY & COURSES
If you’d like to try your hand at some upcycling, the White & Faded Academy offers some brilliant on-line courses. Janet has an amazing eye for transforming vintage, rustic items into chic pieces of beauty (her work has been featured in some of the top interiors magazines). Current courses include, wood bleaching, chair reupholstery and restoration and piping.
