Who’d a Thought It, Grafty Green
This place will not be to everyone’s taste… but if you like eccentricity, total escapism and bling then this quirky boutique stay could be for you!
The Who’d A Thought It definitely lives up its name.
Cow-hide bed under large mirrored ceiling? Wall-to-wall padded velvet and a roll top bath studded with 1,000 Swarovski crystals? It’s what you might have come to expect from The Crazy Bear in chi-chi Beaconsfield or some boutique B&B in Soho. But when you find it tucked away in rural Grafty Green, nestled in the sleepy Kent countryside, you suddenly see why the luxury restaurant got it’s name.
The building is a restored sixteenth century pub, no doubt the site of countless parties and celebrations over the centuries, and is now a Champagne bar, restaurant and hotel. Referred to by locals as the Whody, you can expect a hotel that is a hive of character, quirkiness and outrageous unconventionality.
The rooms are in separate log cabins and not attached to the main building – many have four-poster beds, jacuzzi baths, hot tubs (but of course). Another lesser known feature of this pub is that the restaurant is really very good. Offering classic English dishes, carefully prepared with local ingredients, plenty of attention to detail and the characteristic Whody flair.
