Shall we celebrate the end of Dry January with a nose around our most stonkingly, spectacular Property Flirt yet? Of course we should *claps hands vigorously*! And boy does Stede Court rise to the occasion. Firstly, it’s the most expensive Property Flirt I’ve written about so far, giving a little Hey Big Spender sequin and shimmy to proceedings. Secondly, it’s rich history includes connnections with William the Conqueror and Winston Churchill. Want to have a sneaky peaky?
Usual rules apply – look at the pics and description, enjoy the little fantasy that this place is yours and click to see the price only once you’ve got a figure in mind in your head (that’s the game, see?).
Yeah sure, so this property is waaaaaay out my league, but isn’t it fun seeing how the other half live?! We’re talking 8 bedrooms, 5 bath/shower rooms, 5 reception rooms, an indoor swimming pool complex and stunning landscaped gardens and grounds covering about 25 acres (it even has 3 different entrances). Please stop it, you’re salivating.
Back around the time of the Battle of Hastings William the Conqueror gave this estate to his half brother Odo. It enjoyed a colourful history over the centuries, most notably requisitioned as an Army Officers’ mess during WWII and this is when Churchill and Montgomery were reputed to have met here to discuss tactics. Now go and add a few quid more (people buy into the history).
This unlisted Palladian style mansion has a host or architectural styles that reflect it’s heritage – with Tudor, Victorian and mainly Georgian characteristics all set in rural Harrietsham, near Maidstone (with the M20 conveniently located just minutes away and train links into London). Not that you’ll be working, of course, I mention that only in case you want to take in a show.
The rear of the property has a triple garage block and even more parking space, you know, just in case you don’t have enough room at the front *rolls eyes*. The property also has development potential for the western wing, the Tudor Cottage, being utilised as a completely self contained annexe with its own separate entrance, (subject to any necessary planning consent, etc, etc).
While the property obviously has bags of period charm it also benefits from recent improvements – the kitchen has every mod-con going, from Miele oven to Bosch dishwasher and the indoor swimming pool has a sauna.
Overall there’s in excess of 9, 200 sq ft of living space – with lofting ceiling heights, fabulously large windows to let the light stream in and give you access to those incredible views over the Kent Downs and an Area of Outstanding Beauty – all of which you can take in from the property’s perfectly positioned perch.
You’ll be busy of course at The Tudor Park Golf and Country Club at Bearsted, and nearby world-renowned Leeds Castle Golf Club. For the nippers there are numerous excellent schools including Sutton Valence Prep and Senior Schools as well as Benenden Girls School plus numerous boys and girls grammar schools at Maidstone, Tonbridge and Ashford.
Have a good nose at this property, guess the price, and then see the bank manager, sell the family silver, beg and borrow from your mum and dad (do they really need to be in that swish retirement home?) and come up with a multi-million pound international business pronto.
OK, here we go. No cheatypoos please, make your guesses before you click through!
