Petticoats on show, here we go! A new house for those of you who like to perv at property. This one’s a town-house-tease on Tunbridge Wells Common that’s perfectly set in the most picturesque surrounds. *Sigh* oh for the best of both worlds. You see even although I love living in the heart of the Kentish countryside there’s still a bit of me that’s a town girl at heart. I occasionally hanker after the idea of sauntering to the shops for an almond croissant without getting stuck behind a combine harvester. Or tottering home after a night on the tiles without the expense of rural after dark taxi fees. It’s probably the memory of all those years I spent up in London, foot loose and fancy free.
Now as always, we’re going to have a bit of fun with it. I’ll drip feed you the odd clue and photo, and all you have to do is work out how much wonga you’re going to need to slap down in order to secure the keys. Before you know it you’ll be skipping to the theatre from your new prime positioned residence. Shall we begin? (you know you don’t really win the house, right? Just the glory. But if you get it right, I’ll throw in the almond croissant).
Now I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you the many perks of our very own Royal Tunny Wells. As well as the theatre, shops (in particular The Pantiles) and award-winning restaurants, you can get a train into Charing Cross (55 mins) and more good schools than you can shake a (hockey) stick at. And this crumpet of a cottage is right on the Common – a mere half a mile from the town centre – all of which will, of course, be reflected in the price. So you’ve got your bearings, now shall we see a bit more house?
Lots of high ceilings, characterful fireplaces and wide bay windows here. It’s a landmark Grade II listed attached Decimus Burton cottage – think prolific English architect and garden designer particularly associated with London parks, including buildings at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and London Zoo. So basically fancy classical buildings in beautiful settings. Tick. (hint: this will put the price up!)
