Newnham Court Shopping Village Review

Looking for outdoor fun whilst juggling childcare? Tick off your to-do list plus keep the little lot entertained at Newnham Court Shopping Village...

What to do when you are juggling childcare PLUS plotting your next outdoor fun? Well, you may find that you can tick off your to-do list plus keep the little lot entertained at Newnham Court Shopping Village.

THE LOCATION

This out-of-town shopping village is just off the exit at Junction 7 on the M20, or Junction 5 on the M2. The parking is free and there is lots of it which is a good starting point.

THE LOWDOWN

Most of the shopping experience is outdoor so on a sunny afternoon, it did not feel that you are dragging your family indoors to a stuffy indoor environment and if you are canny, there is lots to divert and entertain them along the way as you fill up your trolley with the practical elements for your garden as well as the fun stuff to decorate your outdoor space.

THE EXPERIENCE

If you take the Follow the Yellow Brick approach, your kids can feel that they are escorting you around as the path naturally starts with Notcutts for plenty of garden fauna and foliage as well as other colourful items to bring character to your home. There’s absolutely everything you could need for your outdoor space – from swish garden furniture to BBQs and gorgeous gifts.

From there, follow the flow to Timberjacks Fencing and whilst they are playing ‘hide and seek’, you can check out their extensive range of fencing, gates, and decking. Never have we looked at our gardens more than in the last year, so this is the place to consult the experts about how to restyle your outdoors, especially if you are staycationing this summer.

Hot tubs were the sizzling must-have last summer and the hunger for them shows no sign of dwindling. And if it is hot tubs and outdoor buildings that you are after – then you will spend a lot of time at Johnsons Garden Buildings and Hot Tubs and there is A LOT to admire so your children won’t be dawdling at this point. Helpfully, there is a huge range of hot tubs (plus swim spas) so whatever the budget and space you have, you will be able to find that perfect tub.

And as far as garden buildings go – whether it’s a home office, music den, teenage haven, a place to pump iron, fancy tool shed, or just somewhere to escape – you will get tonnes of ideas here.

The gaming garden building was a big WOW moment for my seven-year-old son, swiftly followed by ‘Why don’t we have one?’ whereas my five-year old daughter was obsessed by the at-home hair and beauty salon so lots of practical ways to bring your work home with you.

For other home improvement inspo, also make sure you seek out Fine Line if you are looking to add a conservatory space to your house plus Sussex Beds, Hammonds Furniture or Trend Transformations for kitchen and bathroom makeover ideas and AHM Installations for wet rooms and walk-in baths and showers. Consider ‘home improvement research’ ticked off your list!

Cotswold Indoor and Edinburgh Woollen Mill are also there so handy prepping for staycation holidays since you will inevitably need clothing to accommodate all weather, plus of course the tent and necessary camping equipment. For those runners amongst you, can also pick up your essential running accessories at Runners Need.

We were on a mission to find fish to fill our pond and the team at Maidenhead Aquatics were super helpful and informative and my son is still spouting his ‘fish facts’ five days on.

We opted for exotic goldfish varieties having been guided on which fish would suit our pond’s depth and dimensions, but the choice is endless for both indoor and outdoor use, so definitely head there if you are looking for some fish friends. Plus it’s a way to keep the kids happy for half an hour.

Our path then snaked past all the decorative and practical ingredients required for that next alfresco party. From colourful cushions, outdoor seating and festoon lighting to industrial BBQs and the world’s largest marshmallows (in my daughter’s opinion), it was hard to resist popping quite a few items onto the trolley. If you are need of a last-minute gift for literally anyone in your life, you will find it here – even your pet!
