Heard of bOing!? The international family festival is bouncing back in Canterbury this August, here's what's on...

bOing! is bouncing back at the Gulbenkian Arts Centre in Canterbury on Sat 27 and Sat 28 Aug 2022. Expect an amazing weekend of the very best in theatre, dance, films and fun for all the family, packed with magical performances and experiences. As ever, bOing! is totally free to enter so you can relax and enjoy a brilliant festival day with lots of free, outdoor performances and activities.

Here’s what not to miss…

Alice, Sat 27 – Sun 28 Aug

This year features the world premiere of a show by Jasmin Vardimon Company based on the tale of Alice In Wonderland, ALICE. With a sensory feast of arresting images, powerful performers and striking kinetic scenery, Jasmin Vardimon’s newest creation is a re-imagining of the ground-breaking classic. A theatre performance with a world that is different, curious, and compelling. For ages 7+, tickets are £6.

Duckie, Sat 27 – Sun 28 Aug

Duckie is a musical reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling with a message of tolerance and self acceptance at its core. Set in an animal circus, we join Duckie on an adventure of self-discovery, asking questions of the ‘happy ever after’ in a celebration of difference. Watch Duckie triumph by realising their strengths in this vibrant and exceptional theatre show. For ages 3+, tickets are £6.

Arboria II Luminarium, Sat 27 – Sun 28 Aug

Architects of Air return to bOing! for the first time since 2019 with another stunning Luminarium experience. ‘Arboria II’ is an immersive and interactive sculpture, dedicated to the theme of ‘trees’ and designed to evoke wonder at the beauty of light and colour. Inside the inflated structure, you will encounter three tree-like structures where cones and spheres combine to create a brightly luminous tree trunk and branches that reach over their head. A transformative and sensory experience for any age. Tickets can be bought on the day but expect queues at busy times or book your entry in advance with a time slot. Time in the Luminarium is limited to 20 mins at busy periods. Tickets are £4.

Fire Songs, Sat 27 – Sun 28 Aug

Frozen Light create an immersive sensory sound experience for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), performed in collaboration with a local choir. From a soulful connection around a campfire, travelling into the celestial music of the cosmos itself, audiences will experience a whole new world of awe and wonder. Join for an hour of original music interwoven with epic sensory experiences. Designed for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities, this show is also recommended for autistic and complex needs. Tickets are £6 per group.

MOONmoon, Sat 27 – Sun 28 Aug

Norwegian Company Dybwikdans invite you into a universe of song, music and movement all wrapped up in interactive storytelling. MOONmoon is a musical conversation for ages 0-18months, revolving around melody, rhythm, pulse and timing. MOONmoon, inspired by myths and legends, immerses and surrounds the audience to create an intimate yet spectacular experience. Dybwikdans are specialists in performance art for babies and pre-school children. This event is seated on the floor with a limited capacity of only 10 children aged 0-18 months performance with adults. The performance is 40mins long and the tickets are £6.
