COMING SOON: Macknade, Tunbridge Wells, Sep 2021

Sound the klaxon! Macknade, Kent’s food & drink experts, are coming to Tunbridge Wells this September. They’re taking over Hooper’s former café to create an informal restaurant space offering an all-day dining experience, seeing you through breakfast and brunch, to lunch, light suppers and leisurely drinks. There’ll also be a curated collection of indoor plants, handed bouquets available alongside their beloved hamper and foodie gifts. We can’t wait!

CELEB SPOTTING…

OMG. None other than Harry Styles has been spotted filming his new movie My Policeman in Brighton. We’re very excited for this movie adaption of Bethan Roberts’s novel – also featuring Emma Corrin (The Crown).

PLUS! ITV are currently filming a reboot of popular comedy The Darling Buds of May now The Larkins; a six part series starring Bradley Walsh, Joanna Scanlan and Sabrina Bartlett (Bridgerton) – spotted in Sevenoaks! Much of the series that aired in the 90s was filmed around Pluckley, the fans amongst you will be happy to know that you can visit The Black Horse Pub which was the Larkins’ local.

SCHOOL NEWS…

New Head: Kent College Pembury

Independent girls’ day and boarding school, Kent College Pembury has announced the appointment of Miss Katrina Handford as the next Head from Jan 2022. Miss Handford succeeds Ms Julie Lodrick who will become Head at Tudor Hall after serving six years of leadership at Kent College.

Miss Handford is currently Senior Deputy Head, Nottingham Girls’ High School, having recently completed a period as Acting Head there, and brings with her extensive leadership experience, not just from Nottingham Girls’ High School, but also from working closely with its sister schools in the Girls’ Day School Trust.

Merger: The New Beacon Prep School and Tonbridge School

Tonbridge School and The New Beacon Preparatory School will merge with effect from 31 Aug 2021. Tonbridge is one of the leading independent boys’ schools in the UK and currently has more than 800 boys with a blend of boarders and ay pupils. The New Beacon Prep School is in Sevenoaks, approximately 10 miles from Tonbridge. It is a leading independent day and boarding prep school for boys aged 4 to 13 and currently has 325 pupils, including a nursery for boys and girls.

They will be combining their experience and expertise to provide an educational pathway for boys from 3 to 18. Working together with a shared ethos, Tonbridge will welcome 20 boys from the New Beacon every year. But will retain its own teaching and support staff, leadership and management teams and its own uniform and site.
