Tallow, Tunbridge Wells

Lovers of The Compassess Inn in Crundale you’re in for a treat! Owners Rob and Donna Taylor are opening their second venture, Tallow by the village green in Southborough, just outside of Tunbridge Wells. Opening from Fri 5 Nov, enjoy lunch and dinner Tues – Sat. The menu showcases chef owner Rob’s unpretentious style using good ingredients from local suppliers. There’s 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts with a 9-course tasting menu available in the private dining room, alongside an interesting and small edit of wines. Now taking bookings, you’ll want to be the first to try.

The Toll Bridge, Sandwich

Introducing The Toll Bridge, an all-new family run Restaurant and Bar located on the riverside in the historic town of Sandwich. Originally built in the 1980’s at Fisherman’s Wharf, it’s since had a modern and contemporary refurb with a seated courtyard, swanky bar area and upper floor balcony offering views overlooking the River Stour. You can expect food from tender meaty ribs, perfectly grilled salmon to juicy chicken wings – veggie and vegan dishes too! Plus a great selection of irresistible refreshing cocktails, beers and lagers and a choice of carefully chosen local and worldwide wines. Book your table now.

Brichwood, Flimwell Park

Now open is Will Devlin’s third restaurant! Birchwood sits on the edge of 46-acres of birch and chestnut trees, technically in East Sussex in the brand new eco development Flimwell Park. Open for daytime dining, breakfast begins at 8am where you can enjoy home-smoked trout, duck egg and sourdough crumpet; waffles with fruit compote or set goat yogurt with local Goudhurst honey and summer berries. Stay for lunch after a walk in the woods, a yoga class or even a visit to the nearby spa and enjoy Paley Farm lamb chops and parsley dressing; skate on the bone with new season potatoes and perry vinegar dressing or a summer farm salad with pickles and preserves. You won’t wanna miss this! Local potter Kate Monckton Ceramics is coming to Water Lane in November with a pottery workshop. On Thurs 18 Nov create 2 tea cups and a small vase (pictured) using the ‘Kurinuki’ method. It promises to be a fun and informative day, the perfect chance to try something new and create your own piece of pottery.

Kate will be on hand throughout the day to offer guidance and help, there will also be be breaks during the day for mid-morning coffee and lunch. Kate will take your finished pieces away to be fired and glazed, then you’ll be able to return to Water Lane for you to pick up 2 weeks later. All you need to bring is an apron and wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Book your place now.

Europe’s #1 Crab Museum and a satisfyingly baffling tourist attraction which is about to open up in Margate on Sat 23 Oct. Yes we are just as confused as you but their fun Instagram page isn’t giving much away so I guess you’ll just have to see it for yourself! Book a slot and see the space. Admission is free.
