War Horse, The Marlowe Theatre, Web 27 Feb – Sat 16 March

Following its sold-out run at The Marlowe Theatre in 2017 the National Theatre’s acclaimed play War Horse returns to Canterbury in 2019. Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, War Horse is an unforgettable experience which will take you on a journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France.

Snowdrop Walk, Hever Caste, Sat 9 Feb – Sun 3 March 

A heavenly carpet of snowdrops will provide a magical trail for visitors to follow at Hever Castle from Sat 9 Feb! Around 80,000 snowdrop bulbs have been planted in the Gardens over the past few years which will be a beautiful sight to see this March. If you’re feeling energetic, you can also take part in the peaceful one hour Hever Lake Walk which will take you around the perimeter of the 38 acre lake – wellies advised!

Body & Health By Design, Mindfulness & Stretch Class, Biddenden, Friday’s 

A brand new Mindfulness and Stretch Class from Body & Health By Design every Friday at Bloomsbury’s in Biddenden. Between 1:30 – 3pm, the class is designed to improve your flexibility, suppleness and designed to help you create a mind body connection by encouraging the use of breathing and mindfulness techniques. 

The Winter’s Tale: From Shakespeare’s Globe, Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells, Sun 3 March

Coming to Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells is The Winter’s Tale straight from Shakespeare’s Globe. A great play that illustrates how uncontrollable emotions can range across gender, country, class and age. Staged at the beautiful and iconic Globe Theatre in London, this new production is directed by Blanche McIntyre and stars Will Keen (The Crown, Wolf Hall) as Leontes, Priyanga Burford (W1A, Marcella) as Hermione and Annette Badland (EastEnders, Father Brown) as Old Shepherd.

Snowdrop Days, Goodnestone Park, Sun 3 Mar

Check out the first signs of Spring in the Woodland Garden at Goodnestone Park this March. Walk around the windy paths of this beautiful country manor to experience the snow drops, as well as smaller woodland treasures: especially good collections of witch hazels and hellebores. Perfect for a sunny Sunday! 

Leeds Castle’s Big 900 Writing Competition, NOW – 5 Mar 2019

And while we’re on the subject, Leeds Castle is celebrating its 900th anniversary this year – get your kiddies to join the big birthday celebrations by writing a short story about Castles and Time Travel. The two winning stories picked by the judges, including renowned broadcaster and children’s author Clare Balding, will go into a time capsule to be buried by the winning children and HRH Princess Alexandra and only opened again in 100 years’ time. Deadline for entry: 5 Mar 2019 at 12pm.

Jon Doran at Lilford Gallery, Canterbury, Fri 22 March – Fri 5 April

Starting Fri 22 March is the Jon Doran’s solo show at Lilford Gallery in Canterbury. Doran is one of Lilford’s most popular artists, extremely talented, he has made a impressive collection of works which is available to view at the gallery. Doran’s work is based on his immediate surroundings but recently woodland waterfall scenes have become a dominant interest, these scenes come from Yorkshire, Cornwall and France. There’s a wide range of elements which makes for an interesting work both in the making and the final outcome.

Evening with The Hairy Bikers, The Marlowe Theatre, Sat 23 March

An epic night of cooking and conversation! National Treasures Sir King and Dave Myers, aka The Hairy Bikers will be at The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury on Sat 23 March starting at 7:30 pm. The Hairy Bikers have been cooking together for more than 20 years, they’ve created haute cuisine dishes with Michelin-starred chefs and travelled the world in the pursuit of great food. Only a few tickets remaining! 

9 to 5 Musical, Trinity Theatre, Sun 24 March 

Tumble outta’ bed and stumble to Dolly Parton’s rip-roaring West End musical! 9 to 5: The Musical performed by Chichester’s celebrated Tour Company at The Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells on Sun 24 March. 9 to 5; the Musical tells the story of Doralee, Violet and Judy – three workmates pushed to boiling point by their sexist and egotistical boss. Concocting a plan to kidnap and turn the tables on their despicable supervisor, will the girls manage to reform their office – or will events unravel when the CEO pays an unexpected visit? Inspired by the cult film this hilarious new touring production is about teaming up, standing up and taking care of business! The production features a West End professional live band and some of the most freshest voices, dancers and actors on stage. Showing at 7:30 pm, there’s still a few tickets left. 

Violet Jive, Powder & Magazine, Sun 24 March

Powder & Magazine are known for their Sunday lunches where live jazz is often played and our sources tell us that it can be a struggle to get a table! You’ll love the cool historic setting in the old Royal Navy Ordnance Depot, think funky, high-ceiling warehouse but with a very welcoming vibe. 

Literary Dinner, The Dog at Wingham, Canterbury, Tues 26 March

The Dog at Wingham’s first ever Literary Dinner! Enjoy a fantastic four-course meal and a talk from Tracy Borman about her latest book “Henry VIII and The Men Who Made Him” followed by a Q&A. Starting at 8pm enjoy a welcome drink, talk and then dinner! Expect crispy pigs head, pickled shallot, sweet apple puree and blood sausage. Followed by Chalk steam trout, veal sweetbreads and roast chicken butter sauce and apple and raisin taffeta tart with navy rum ice cream for pudding. For more information and to book: 

Supper Club, British Kitchen, Flimwell, Sat 30 March

British Kitchen Supper Club is a pop-up restaurant based in Flimwell. They base their menus on traditional recipes from across the British Isles and cook using local and seasonal produce combined with modern cooking techniques to bring you a delicious 4 course meal, lots of extra treats and you might even be able to bring something home. Enjoy the meal in comfortable surroundings and hear about the inspiration behind the dishes from Jack, the head chef. Tickets are only £35 per person and are available to book through their website.

The Pork House Pit’s Woodland Supper Club, Woodchurch, Sat 30 March

In Etchingham on the border of Kent and East Sussex, an atmospheric woodland awaits you for a wild feast. You’ll be welcomed with canapés and drinks on arrival before sitting down for a three-course seasonal feast. The menu is unconfirmed but you can expect smokehouse ‘low n slow’ style of food with a pinch of fine dining thrown in with fresh seasonal vegetables and a treat for dessert! Sign us up!

Mother’s Day Weekend, Penshurst Place, Sat 30 – Sun 31 March

A whole weekend of activities planned at Penshurst Place! Visit on the Saturday to create a loving card and a special craft for Mum in the Old Coach House. This Easter The Canterbury Tales visitor attraction will reopen the gates to its Medieval Story Garden where families will join in the Knights Tournament! Children and grown-ups alike can practice their battle skills through a series of activities. Wave-Field, Variation F, Coal Drops Yard, London, Thurs 31 Jan – Sun 10 Mar

Illuminated musical seesaws…if that doesn’t bring out your inner child then nothing will! The hugely popular travelling installation Wave-Field, Variation F, is created by Lateral Office and CS Design with soundscape by Mitchell Akiyama, and it’s coming to Coal Drops Yard.

With Wave-Field, Variation F, you are the catalyst that sets the artwork in motion. The installation invites you to play…in public…in the street. You’ll have to pair up with others – friends, family, strangers – to create patterns and harmonies. The result? An ever-changing musical event where light and sound build and intensify.
