Leeds Castle’s Big 900 Writing Competition, NOW – 5 Mar 2019

And while we’re on the subject, Leeds Castle is celebrating its 900th anniversary this year – get your kiddies to join the big birthday celebrations by writing a short story about Castles and Time Travel. The two winning stories picked by the judges, including renowned broadcaster and children’s author Clare Balding, will go into a time capsule to be buried by the winning children and HRH Princess Alexandra and only opened again in 100 years’ time. The hugely popular travelling installation Wave-Field, Variation F, is created by Lateral Office and CS Design with soundscape by Mitchell Akiyama, and it’s coming to Coal Drops Yard. With Wave-Field, Variation F, you are the catalyst that sets the artwork in motion. The installation invites you to play…in public…in the street. You’ll have to pair up with others – friends, family, strangers – to create patterns and harmonies. The result? EXHIBITION: Don McCullin Photography, Tate Britain, Sun 3 Feb – Mon 6 May & Dorothea Tanning Exhibition, Wed 27 Feb to Sun Jun 9

Over 250 photographs spanning Don McCullin’s 6o year career are on display at Tate Britain and include his iconic war images, including Vietnam, Northern Island and Syria, as well as some of his work focussing on poverty in England. At the end of the month, Tate Modern is showing over 100 works by Dorothea Tanning, from her 7 decade career as a surrealist artist. And don’t forget the Tate Late session at the Tate Modern on Fri 22 Feb when you can wander the galleries after hours and listen to talks, music and workshops. tate.org.uk
