Macknade, Hoopers, Tunbridge Wells, Sep 2021

Sound the klaxon! Macknade, Kent’s food & drink experts, are coming to Tunbridge Wells this September. They’re taking over Hooper’s former café to create an informal restaurant space offering an all-day dining experience, seeing you through breakfast and brunch, to lunch, light suppers and leisurely drinks. There’ll also be a curated collection of indoor plants and hand-tied bouquets available alongside their beloved hamper and foodie gifts. We can’t wait!

Cookery Courses, Kent Cookery School, Now – Thurs 30 Sep

Aprons at the ready! Try something new this month and discover hidden gem Kent Cookery School in the stunning setting of the Mersham-le-Hatch Estate, near Ashford. The Beaney needs your Lego Bricks! Now – Sun 26 Sep

It’s not too early to discuss Christmas right? Help The Beaney in Canterbury create an unforgettable FREE family Christmas experience! Alongside BRICKLIVE’s life size models of Santa (pictured), reindeer and some cheeky elves, The Beaney needs YOU to help them create a Brick Model Trail to be exhibited through Canterbury City this Christmas.

They want to include as many school children as possible and, in the spirit of sustainability, would like to use as many ‘pre-loved’ LEGO or compatible bricks as possible. So if you have cupboards bursting with bricks, or just cannot bear the thought of another excruciating step across a brick covered bedroom floor, this project is for you. Drop off your pre-owned bricks (LEGO or compatible models) at the Visitor Information Desk at The Beaney until 26 Sep 2021. These bricks will be sent to schools for the ‘little helpers’ to get to work!

Sheps Live & Unlocked, Faversham, Fri 3 – Sun 5 Sep

The first weekend of September is usually when Faversham celebrates their hop harvest with its annual Hop Festival but due to the C-word (it’s not Christmas), they’ve had to cancel. So Shepherd Neame has stepped in and organised Live & Unlocked, a whole weekend of fantastic live music to enjoy in the pubs and venues across Faversham. Late Nights at Macknade, every Thurs, Fri and Sat

Late nights at Macknade in Ashford are back! They’ll be extending their hours until 10pm every Thurs, Fri and Sat so enjoy delicious dishes and drinks from the bar, alongside a spot of late night shopping and live music every Thursday. They have their early evening menu from 5pm – 7pm where you can enjoy a large plate and a drink for £12 or a large plate, drink or dessert for £16. Ring Ring Ice Cream, Ramsgate, Open now

If the sun is shining in Ramsgate then Ring Ring Ice-Cream, possibly the world’s smallest ice cream parlour will be selling the world’s most mega ice creams just 60 steps from the beach on Harbour Parade. Set up in two Jubilee red phone boxes with deck chairs and umbrellas surrounding it, it might be small but the flavours and service have big theatrical flair. Keep an ear out for the telephone ringing when you visit. It rings once a day and if you’re at the top of the queue when it does you get a free ice cream.

Tonbridge Food & Drink Festival, Sat 4 & Sun 5 Sep

Fire up your taste buds again at this year’s fabulous Tonbridge Food & Drink Festival in the town’s beautiful castle grounds. Try, taste and buy from more than 50 stallholders selling a delicious range of food and drink produced in and around Kent and from across the globe. There’s lots of fun activities planned to entertain the whole family including a programme of cooking demonstrations from local chefs, food producers and local food writers and there’ll be over 30 brews over by the Beer & Cider Festival tent, the perfect chance to try out something new. Open 11am – 6pm, free entry. Leeds Castle Concert, Sat 4 Sep

The iconic event has already established itself as one of the highlights of the summer season, set in the most stunning location and natural amphitheatre in front of the beautiful Leeds Castle. Sevenoaks Bookshop are hosting an event with the one and only Lemony Snicket, author of the bestselling A Series of Unfortunate Events and now comes a new cautionary tale about his own demise. Cinema at The Harbour Screen, Folkestone, Until Thurs 9 Sep

Folkestone’s restored Harbour Arm is a beautiful promenade out at sea which offers a whole load more than just a pretty awesome view. There’s live music and events throughout the year, plus a brilliant collection of small, independent street food sellers. Also home to Harbour Screen with its programme of film and sports – there’s always something to look forward to! Craft Fair, Hever Castle, Thurs 9 – Sun 12 Sep

The annual craft fair is returning to Hever Castle featuring the best of UK designers and artists. All 180 exhibitors have designed and made the work that they display and have been selected for their individuality and innovation in contemporary design, as well as outstanding technical ability. The event will be held in open-sided marquees within the award-winning Hever Castle Gardens set in 125 acres of glorious grounds with the backdrop of the historic castle. Beautiful! Summer Exhibition, West End House, Smarden, Until Sun 12 Sep

Summer has arrived at West End House Gallery! This beautiful contemporary gallery is based in the heart of historic Smarden. They show a range of artworks including paintings, prints and ceramics so make sure to pop by this summer for their Exhibition showing an eclectic and colourful collection of work from artists near and far. Open Thurs-Sun, 10am-5pm.

Meet the fantastic and award-winning Square Peg Arts, a Kent-based learning disabled/autistic theatre company, and their brand-new performance of The Steampunk Circus of Unkindness. This brilliant new production, which explores kindness, premieres at The Brook Theatre in Chatham on Weds 15 Sep and Canterbury’s Gulbenkian Theatre on Weds 27 Oct. If you’re local, you may have already found little packages of kindness around Chatham which include a small gift and free tickets to the show. Horizons: 2021 Space Odyssey with Professor Brian Cox and Robin Ince, Assembly Hall Theatre, Tues 21 Sep

Having set two Guinness World Records with his previous sell-out World Tour, Professor Brian Cox is warming up a brand-new show for 2021. Horizons takes audiences on a dazzling cinematic journey; a story of how we came to be and what we can become. The Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells will be showing this film filled with images of far-away galaxies, alien worlds, supermassive black holes and a time before the Big Bang. The deepest of questions will be explored using the latest advances in our understanding of quantum theory, black holes, biology, planetary science, astronomy and cosmology. ‘Under The Rainbow’ Exhibition, Bluewater, Mon 27 Sep – Mon 1 Nov

An exciting non-profit exhibition of uplifting art is coming to Bluewater this September, showcasing art work in a range of mediums from artists across the South East. Founder Ewa Page (pictured), a Bluewater restaurant manager and artist, knows how many artists had struggled during lockdown, unable to exhibit their work due to COVID-19 restrictions. Plus art had helped sustain their mental wellbeing during what’s been a really difficult time. So the idea of holding an exhibition promoting an inclusive, uplifting and joyful vibe to celebrate community, mindfulness and kindness was born! Pop along to Under The Rainbow Exhibition from the end of September, the event will be free to visit from 11am – 6pm and all the art will be for sale.
