Following a record-breaking UK and Ireland Tour, the smash hit blockbuster is back – and larger than life! Based on the story and characters from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, this hilarious and spectacular production turns the world of fairytales upside down in an all-singing, all-dancing, must-see musical comedy.
Join Shrek, (Steffan Harri) and his loyal steed Donkey as they set off on a quest to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona (Amelia Lily) from her tower, guarded by a fire breathing love-sick dragon. Add the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad, a gang of fairytale misfits, and a biscuit with attitude of course.
Jazz on the Pantiles, Tunbridge Wells, Thurs 12 Jul
Its hard to think of a more perfect combination than warm summer evenings, the beautiful setting of the cobblestone streets and aged buildings of the Pantiles and the uplifting vibrancy of Jazz music, played by The Five Aces (all for free!).
Battle for Victory, Ellington Park Ramsgate, Fri 13 Jul
Commemorating 100 years since the end of The First World War, Battle for Victory will be hosting a living history show for budding war historians and civilians alike. Expect super realistic re-enactments and battle campsite, period military vehicles and some fantastic stage shows. There will also be vintage stalls and fun fair, a barbeque and a real ale bar.
Volks Weald 2018, Penshurst Place, Fri 13 – Sun 15 Jul
An old school, very 70’s car show, displaying the best retro Volkswagens in the stunning parkland of Penshurst Place. Volks Weald has a feel of a festival about it, as there is even the opportunity to camp for two nights over the weekend, live music and entertainment across the three days, a shopping and trade village and an catering avenue absolutely perfect for foodies.
Jousting events and Knights & Princesses School, Hever Castle, Sat 14 – Mon 27 Aug
There’s loads of stuff going on at Hever Castle this month from the Knights of Royal England returning once again to battle it out at the annual Jousting Tournament. Then throughout the summer holidays children can take part in a series of hands-on activities to learn to be a knight or princess in medieval times.
Penshurst Place Summer Maize Maze, Sat 14 Jul – 2 Sept
Summer at this stately home just wouldn’t be the same without the ever-popular Maize Maze. The theme this year is time travel and it includes an optional new third shorter route to travel. The maze has been expertly designed to resemble a clock face, and you’ll discover new codes to collect as you navigate the route!
You’ll need to solve clues from different historical eras as you explore the twists and turns, in order to collect letters and crack the new Maize Maze puzzle. There are prizes on offer and if you share your photos using #SnappedAtPenshurst you’ll also be in with the chance of winning a family season ticket.
If you are short on time, or have little ones in tow, Penshurt Place has three maze route options this year. The popular massive Maize Maze plus two smaller mazes – one for mini travellers and another for older travellers who prefer to spend a shorter time exploring!
Margate Pretty Muddy 5k, Margate, Sat 14 Jul
Tackle this 5k obstacle course in aid of the fantastic charity, Cancer Research UK. Scramble up an A frame, and crawl through a mud pit, leap ditches and run along a beautiful coastal path (whilst caked in mud) for a really brilliant cause.
Outdoor theatre – Midsummer Nights Dream, Scotney Castle, 14 Jul
A dreamy summer’s evening and a beautiful mansion house set the scene and backdrop for one of Shakespeare’s most loved plays.
Scummy Mummies, Whitstable Playhouse, Sat 14 Jul
Following their sell-out UK tour the Scummies are back and appearing for the first time in Whitstable for one night only. Join Ellie & Helen as they celebrate the scummier side of parenting from drinking wine at tea time to hiding from the PTA!
Leeds Castle Classical Concert, Leeds Castle, Sat 14 Jul
Leeds Castle presents the 40th edition of one of the most magnificent and memorable summer evenings you can find in Kent, guests flock in their thousands to this gorgeous open-air setting in the castle grounds. Bring a picnic and be entertained by field cannons, fireworks and much loved classical music.
Run or Dye, Penshurst Place, Sun 15 Jul
Perhaps the most colourful and actually fun 5k run in the world! Run or Dye is absolutely for everyone, no matter your running experience, age or speed. Wear as much white clothing as possible to become your very own painted canvas, or go crazy and wear those neon leg warmers and that old wedding dress, the weirder the better! And as you make your way around the course, look out for the ‘Colour Crew’ who will splatter you with a myriad of coloured paints and sprays, you’ll finish looking like you’ve just wrestled a rainbow and lost! There is also the chance to run a 3.5k and a mini runners 1k dash.
