The Campfire Tales, The Canterbury Tales, May 17 – Thurs 30 Aug
Popular visitor attraction The Canterbury Tales has just launched a new weekly programme of twilight storytelling events. The Campfire Tales will embrace the city’s ancient storytelling traditions; gather around a crackling campfire and listen to a storyteller recount the tales. Taking place every Thursday evening from May to August, in the Medieval Story Garden behind the attraction, stories will begin at 7pm. Don’t forget to bring your own cup! Free refills of tea, coffee and, hot chocolate available – let’s get cosy.
Animals & Us, Turner Contemporary, May 25 – Sun 30 Sep
Animals & Us is a major exhibition exploring artists’ reflections on the relationship between humans and other animals. Installed across all Turner Contemporary’s first floor galleries, it encompasses a wide range of media from painting, sculpture to video and installation. Focusing on contemporary and 20th-century artists, including historical artworks and artifacts, Animals & Us, explores our lives and encounters with animals and how these have been reflected in art.
Gorilla Circus, Dreamland, Sat 9 June – Sun 2 Sept
Don’t get bored yet! Gorilla Circus is providing an outdoor show with an impressive circus set up. Combining aerial, high-wire-, trapeze and other circus spectacles. Gorilla Circus will performing twice a day at Dreamland throughout August.
The Maze Challenge, Leeds Castle, 1 Aug – 2 Sept
Leeds Castle boasts one of Kent’s most popular mazes and this year it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Created in 1988 by renowned professional designer Adrian Fisher, (fact fans) the Castle’s maze is made up of over 2,400 yew trees and there are weekly challenges set throughout the summer. What’s more, throughout the school holidays you can also enjoy the Falconry Displays that take place in front of the Maze. The demonstration lasts about 30 to 40 minutes and features a range of birds including Hawks, Vulture, Falcon and Owls. Both activities included in the price of admission.
Kids For A Quid, Spa Valley Railway, 28 July – 31 Aug
Looking for something to do with the kids this Summer? At the Spa Valley Railway, all kids can travel for just £1 throughout August. Journey through the picturesque Kent countryside on something a little different.
Archery Taster, Betteshanger Country Park, selected dates Aug
Fancy trying something new? This summer holiday, Betteshanger are running a number of Archery taster sessions! The qualified instructors will teach your kids (or you!) how to hold the bow, stand correctly, aim and shoot arrows at a target. You might want to book this one in, we can tell it’s going to be very popular.
Knights & Princesses School, Hever Castle, 21 July – 27 August
Throughout the summer holidays your kiddies can experience what it was like to grow up and serve in a royal household in medieval times at Knights & Princesses School, don’t forget to dress up! Classes are free and last for 40 minutes – just enough time to sit down and read a book.
