What to do this weekend locally

Angling for some culture this weekend? You're in the right place, sister! There's a medieval pageant, harvest farm feast, Hoftoberfest in Sevenoaks and errr a big moon...It's all happening across Kent.

Medieval Pageant and Trail to launch Canterbury Festival, Sat 16 Oct (Festival runs until Sat 30 Oct)

The Canterbury Festival returns with a bigger and bolder programme to put the arts firmly back on the map. From the quirky to the sublime – the festival aims to bring together the people of Kent for a celebration of creativity. 

This year’s festival launches with Canterbury’s sixth annual Medieval Pageant and Trail, celebrating the legacy of Saint Thomas Becket on Sat 16 Oct.

The colourful parade features historical characters and re-enactment groups, music – and giants! The parade will enter the city from the Westgate Towers at 11am, processing through the city centre, and finishing in the Buttermarket at approximately 11.40am.

Between 11.30am and 5pm, various locations in the city will form the Medieval Family Trail. Designed around children and their parents, the Westgate Towers, the Beaney, St Augustine’s Abbey, and many more be welcoming visitors with a range of activities including craft activities, a chance to meet medieval characters and you can even visit a medieval encampment! When you visit places featured in the Family Trail, be sure to have your leaflet ‘stamped’. Family fun for littles ones right up to ‘Middle Ages’. Boom, boom. Click here for the full line-up.

Harvest Farm Feast, Green Farm, Sat 16 Oct

Don’t miss out on this unique, countryside dining experience! Celebrate the end of Harvest season with a seasonal 5-course Set Menu at Green Farm’s Supper Club on Sat 16 Oct. Set in the idyllic Shadoxhurst conversation area, near Ashford surrounded by 12,500 acres. Take our word for it, it’s beautiful! The curated courses created by in-house chef Amelia, savour some of the best seasonal, homegrown Green Farm produce. Tunbridge Wells Puppetry Festival, Calverley Grounds, Until Sun 17 Oct

Don’t miss this packed festival of all things puppet! The centrepiece of the festival being Luke Jerram’s artwork Museum of the Moon (pictured), which will be suspended in Calverley Grounds providing the opportunity to see our moon floating in three dimensions – wow indeed! There’s 40 innovative contemporary puppetry events happening all week which will delight all ages. Book your tickets in advance here – majority of which are free to enjoy.

Revive Day, Ashdown Park Hotel, Sat 16 Oct

Hoftoberfest, Hive, Sevenoaks, Sun 17 & Sun 24 Oct

Head to Hive on 17 Oct as they team up with Hofmeister Beer for a day of great brews, food and live music (kicking off at 12pm!). Try their herb schnitzel, Battle bockwurst banger, smoke sausage stew, venison Scotch egg and veggie options too! Tickets are £15 on the door which include 2.5 pint stein and one food item.
