Kids in chaaaarge!
Let my kids pick our family holiday? Errr, really? Call me a cynic, but this, I had to put to the test...Read on to see the result!
I’ve ambled past the Flight Centre store on Camden Road, Tunbridge Wells, more times than I can count, pressing my nose wistfully to the window and drooling at the images of sun-soaked sands. But three forces of nature finally pulled me in there this week.
The first was the fact that, after a rather demanding 2018, Mr Muddy and I are in the market for a long-overdue family holiday – the stuff that real memories are made of. The other two forces of nature were my kids. Because they saw the massive promotional poster saying that the best way of booking a holiday is to put your Kids in Charge. Errr, really? Call me a cynic, but this, I had to put to the test…
‘Putting your Kids in Charge of your next holiday might seem like a crazy notion,’ says the Flight Centre website, ‘but we think it’s pretty great.’ The point being that kids have boundless imaginations (that’s exactly what I was worried about – unicorn scuba diving school, anyone?). Click here to see a funny clip of what happened when they put some of the Flight Centre travel consultants to the test!
However I can testify that I found the whole experience suprisingly stress-free, almost *whispers it* fun. (Don’t tell them though.) My Mudlets actually came up with some reasonably sensible suggestions. Here’s a little insight to the process – below are the forms they fill out with the travel consultant, in our case the very helpful, Nick.
Then you talk dates, priorities and budget. There’s a shiny new Family Adventures brochure to provide inspiration. I’ve not booked a holiday in-store for ages – but this was a conscious decision. Personally I’ve given up spending hours of my life googling in the (often misguided) hope that I’ll save money by booking it all myself directly online – that’s sooo last decade.
I’m not alone, it seems time-poor families across the UK are returning to travel agents as we’re all realising that nothing can beat the benefits of someone who can provide proper face-to-face expertise – while saving you time and money.
And despite the name (and the fact that you might remember stumbling in there with your college mates in the Eighties looking for a cheap flight) Flight Centre is about so much more than just the plane journey! They provide the whole concierge experience and put together some incredible tailor made family adventures. Canandian Rockies, USA national parks, South African safaris, Thai elephant experiences… You get the idea. Incredible.
Then when you’ve chosen your destination you drill down to the detail. Day trips, diving lessons everything can be curated. And for parents it’s a dream come true. Restaurants can be recommended with insider info (Mr Muddy is a foodie and likes to eat in authentic destinations) but equally fussy eaters are even catered for.
And you don’t have to take my word for it. You and your family can go in-store, between now and Christmas Eve, so you can put your Kids in Charge of tailor making your next big trip together. Every family who goes in to plan their hols will get £250 off their next holiday and be entered into a prize draw to win £20,000 towards your dream family adventure! Win, win.
