Water fun with Paddle Cabin!
Calling all explorers! Tick this off your summer bucket list and try a SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) session with new watersport venture, Paddle Cabin in East Peckham.
We love this new watersport venture, Paddle Cabin (who won Best New Covid Business in our Muddy Awards thanks to you!), launched by friends and co-founders Hayley and Jo who are in love with the paddle boarding way of life and all the incredible benefits and experiences that come with it. They offer Super-friendly SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) sessions for all levels, from their cute cabin in East Peckham. So we had to try it out!
Paddle Cabin is situated in Branbridges Leisure complete with a café, toilet, showers and many public footpaths for walks on site. All the water activities take place on The River Medway, a tranquil and wide waterway which passes through meadows, woods and villages, offering a wide variety of birds and wildlife. The perfect place to prioritise time outdoors and unwind on the water.
There’s a café on-site so after all that exercise, you can sit in or outside with the beautiful woodland views – the smell of the BBQ caught our attention!
From intro sessions for beginners, coaching for improver paddlers, family sessions, date night experiences and more, there’s a session here for you!
One sunny day we got to experience their most popular option, the Bespoke Session which is 1.5 hours of fun on the water in a safe and positive environment and at a pace that suited us.
Perfect for beginners to competent paddlers, this private session is fully tailored to help you achieve your paddle goals, needs and interests. Including confidence and safety on your board, improving your paddle technique and having fun on the water with your friends or family!
We were complete beginners with no idea what to expect but we met Jo at the cabin where we were kitted out with a paddle board, paddle and safety gear. We had our introduction, safety chat and then we were off!
We walked our boards a couple metres to the water’s edge where Jo helped us hop on and then we set off on our water adventure.
Lapping up the benefits of being completely submerged in nature and off our phones, we discovered so much of the beauty of The River Medway.
Jo was an incredible teacher, making us feel completely at ease and went at the perfect pace for us. We learnt so much, after standing up, we were ready to try a trick or two! After many belly laughs and wobbles, we had the best time and we definitely didn’t want to be back on land anytime soon.
Hayley and Jo have created loads of options for paddle boarding lessons, coaching, experiences and a community of local paddlers.
Whether that’s building your skills and confidence on the water, finding your tribe through the members and club nights, exploring the waters of the UK through the club’s trips, coming together to clean up the river, joining the social campfire paddles, calming your mind through their SUP Meditation, trying SUP Yoga or why not bring your four-legged friend for SUP Pups?
And what better way to travel to the pub than being on the water? Yep you can Paddle To The Pub! Travel by paddleboard 1.5 miles from the Cabin to The BoatHouse in Yalding where you can finish your evening with some drinks or a meal – the perfect date night!
THE MUDDY VERDICT
Good for: You’re ready to discover and learn something new or improve your paddleboarding skills at this rustic water adventure. The perfect place to meet likeminded people or enjoy with your friends and family.
Bad for: If you’re not ready to get wet! Don’t expect crystal clear waters, this place is all about having fun.
