THE LOWDOWN

The Ferry House is a beautiful 16th century venue on the Isle of Sheppey that boasts edge of the world surroundings – a wild and wonderful setting, full of swaying grasslands, waterways and water birds flying low across the marshes.

The family farm, just 3 miles up the road, is where it all began – after all, no one knows how to cook a good honest meal like a farmer’s wife! Now The Ferry House has evolved into a dine and stay destination that comprises delicious restaurant, four-star bed and breakfast, and luxurious spa treatments all rolled into one.

Sold? We thought you might be. The Burden family call their home ‘the nearest faraway place to London.’ Surrounded by rolling farmland, wild meadows, protected wetland bird reserves and Blue Flag coastline, right on your doorstep.

THE LOCATION

Sitting pretty directly on the Swale estuary, you’ll find The Ferry House where a series of little fleet rivers cut across the landscape, forming a magical terrain of meandering channels. It’s one of these fleets – Capel Fleet – that separates the Isle of Harty from the rest of Sheppey.

A narrow road – called a causeway – is all that connects you with the outside world, which is how Harty gets its unique reputation as an isle within an island. Can you get more special and secluded than that?

DINNER & STAY

The venue itself is as stylish as it is unique – with the original period character of the property sympathetically retained alongside all the joys of contemporary luxury. The end result is your ultimate destination for anyone seeking rustic refinement.

The Ferry House offers eleven four-star B&B rooms – all gorgeously decorated, en suite rooms -four of which being dog friendly.

Whether you are staying or simply visiting to enjoy a meal, you’ll love the 2AA Rosette restaurant, a two-time Taste of Kent award winner. The Ferry House firmly believe that local is best – as evidenced through their use of bountiful produce form their large kitchen garden, beef and game from their family farm and local estate, plus award-winning spirits distilled from their own grains.

They even have Treatments Rooms where you can choose from a selection of massages and facial options including their Prescriptive Facial or their Face & Body Ritual. Blissssssss.

WEDDINGS AND PRIVATE HIRE

The rustically refined ambience of The Ferry House makes it the perfect destination for your special day. There’s a beautiful wedding barn and oak gazebo overlooking the water. These are designed for hosting ceremonies for up to 180 guests as well as receptions for up to 70 in the barn or 250 in the dedicated event suite.

The venue offers a personal planning service. Plus, there’s also the luxury B&B rooms as well as five country cottages that can accommodate over 70 wedding guests overnight – meaning no one has to miss a moment.

Combined with the restaurant and treatment rooms – not only do you have the perfect spot to tie the knot but also lots of reasons to justify a return visit. In fact, a first anniversary meal is actually included in the wedding package, just another classy touch. Enjoy a virtual tour of The Ferry House here.
