Hydrating Facial: The holy grail of skincare?
Want smoother, younger-looking, radiant skin - without resorting to more invasive cosmetic procedures? Hell, yeah! Step forward the Hydro Facial at No.6 Clinic...
Who wants smooth, younger-looking, radiant skin? Even better if this can be achieved without more invasive cosmetic procedures? I think we are all standing on tip toes and raising our hands in the air…
The original Hydra Facial has become one of the most popular treatments for those wanting anti-ageing treatments, even A-listers are openly singing its praises – from Kate Winslet to Beyoncé.
And skin specialists, No.6 Clinic, right here in Tunbridge Wells, boast their own hydrating facial that – word of mouth has it – is also highly effective. So, faster than a speeding bullet, I went to check it out.
I’ve had various issues with my skin over the years so am rather precious about my facials. But I have total faith in No.6 Clinic’s senior aesthetician, Carly, having visited her a number of times over the last few years and she is an exceptional therapist.
So who better to entrust with my forty-something, winter-woeful skin? I took myself there for some much needed complexion TLC to try out their version of this popular anti-ageing treatment.
Established for 15 years, No.6 Clinic is the ultimate skin clinic in Kent for anyone wanting to achieve and maintain healthy, youthful looking skin. Muddy Stiletto Award winners, for Best Beauty Salon in Kent, for 4 years in a row, as it happens!
The dedicated medical team, headed up by Dr Natasha Gilani (and aesthetic nurse practitioner Sam) have each had more than 18 years experience in aesthetics. They are passionate about nurturing patients to embrace age and skin health, which has seen No.6 Clinic establish an excellent reputation for offering supportive and honest advice for the last 15 years.
No.6 Clinic offers a wide range of medical aesthetic treatments, injectables and medical grade facials. Treating medical conditions such as acne, scarring, pigmentation, facial veins and rosacea (as well as skin rejuvenation) using the most up to date techniques, products and machines.
While the No.6 Clinic is a medical clinically safe environment, it’s also an informal and friendly setting, situated in a private Mews in St John’s, Tunbridge Wells.
Another plus point for us is that they have the best parking in Tunbridge Wells in the John Street Car Park (just 1 min away and 40p for 2hrs) which makes parking for longer treatments still very affordable.
No.6 Clinic have created their own bespoke hydrating facial – the Hydro Facial. It’s a multi-step treatment that they have curated – and the best bit is it works instantly without any down time.
First the skin is deeply cleansed and exfoliated using technology to help resurface skin and remove debris from pores. A vacuum-based abrasion tip will gently smooth away dead skin cells while delivering serum directly to the fresh new skin beneath.
I found this bit is very pleasant and not at all scratchy, more like a little skin massage. Now that pore-blocking old skin cells have been swept away, a solution is applied to gently break up congestion in the pores.
This serum is brimming with ingredients to revitalise and help your skin absorb all the goodness for a radiant glow. It includes antioxidant, peptides and that buzz word – hyaluronic acid – the holy grail for plump and firm skin.
The treatment includes LED Light Therapy too. This will soothe your skin, reducing redness, and stimulate the production of collagen. It even helps your skin naturally produce vitamin D. The promise is you will be left with skin that feels soft, smooth, and invigorated.
I am a disciple of senior aesthetician Carly, who will put you immediately at ease with her friendly, approachable manner, but also totally knows her onions (and salicylic solutions). She benefits from over 20 years experience and is well known locally for her knowledge, expertise and care in all the IPL and facial treatments she oversees.
This is me, pictured above, so the results can speak for themselves. This was taken after the treatment which is why I still have salon ‘hat hair’.
The facial gave my skin a much-needed reboot, after months of neglect. Particularly perfect after the winter months have taken their toll or for 40-plus complexions.
I have quite reactive skin, but the treatment can be completely adapted for your skin type, whether you have sensitive skin or a more robust skin structure. The Hydro Facial costs £120 for 1 hour, an initial outlay, but the results are long lasting.
The immediate benefit for me was firmer feeling skin. I imagine you need to have a few treatments to see any reduction of fine lines. But I definitely enjoyed a more youthful glow and clearer skin for a few weeks after. Until the ravishes of ‘maskne’ and not enough sleep got the better of me again…
But hey, Hydro Facial – I will be back!
