<p>If you’ve had Kent College Pembury on your radar (and if you haven’t, why not?), there’s a significant update. From September 2026, this established day and boarding school will be fully co-educational, welcoming boys into the Senior School for the first time.</p>



<p>Before you assume a major shake-up, it’s not that. Think of it more as a thoughtful evolution. The same strong academics, excellent pastoral care and down-to-earth community is now simply open to more families.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-actually-changing">What’s actually changing?</h3>



<p>In a word: access. With boys already well embedded at the Prep School since 2020, this move completes the journey. From 2026, boys can join across Senior School year groups, as well as Sixth Form and boarding, creating a seamless pathway from Prep through to A Levels.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-academics-with-breadth-and-a-bit-of-bite">Academics with breadth (and a bit of bite)</h3>



<p>Kent College continues to balance traditional academic strength with a more modern, career-aware edge. Alongside a wide range of A Level subjects, students can now explore BTECs in areas like Medical Science, Criminology, Media, Marketing and IT, plus Engineering is being introduced from KS3.</p>



<p>It’s a genuinely broad offering designed to suit different ambitions and not a one-size-fits-all approach.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-sport-the-question-everyone-s-asking">Sport: the question everyone’s asking</h3>



<p>Let’s address the big one – particularly for parents of boys. What’s the sport actually like? Short answer: strong, structured and inclusive.</p>



<p>Sport here isn’t just for the top teams (although they’re doing very nicely, thank you). The focus is on getting every pupil involved, whether they’re trying something new or competing at a high level.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-plenty-of-choice">Plenty of choice</h3>



<p>From hockey, netball, football, cricket, tennis and athletics to swimming, badminton and gymnastics, there’s a wide mix of team and individual options. Facilities include a fitness suite and climbing wall, so there’s always something to get stuck into.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-proper-coaching-not-just-pe">Proper coaching, not just PE</h3>



<p>Specialist coaches are a key part of the programme, supported by partnerships with clubs and academies such as Tonbridge Angels Football Club, Raw Skills Hockey Academy, Wealden Netball Club and Monson Swim Academy. There’s also an in-house Gymnastics Academy – a real bonus for aspiring gymnasts.</p>



<p>As Director of Sport, James Beck, puts it: &#8216;Our aim is simple – to ensure every student discovers a sport they enjoy, feels confident participating, and has the opportunity to unlock their potential. At the same time, we provide a clear pathway for those who aspire to perform at the highest level. It’s about creating a culture where participation, performance, and the development of every individual’s potential sit seamlessly alongside one another<em>.</em>&#8216;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-competitive-but-balanced">Competitive, but balanced</h3>



<p>Fixtures run regularly across local and regional levels, with pupils competing in a healthy, well-supported environment. Recent highlights include: National U14 Tier 2 Hockey Finalists (4th place, 2026); U14 Hockey County and Regional Champions (2026); strong results at Kent Schools Swimming Championships (2026) and County success in netball and gymnastics (2025).</p>



<p>So yes, there’s real achievement here but without losing sight of participation and enjoyment.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-for-those-aiming-higher">For those aiming higher</h3>



<p>Sport scholarships at Year 7, 9 and 12 offer a more tailored pathway, including mentoring, academic support and performance development. Think strength and conditioning, nutrition, sports psychology and performance analysis that is all designed to support ambitious young athletes without compromising their studies.</p>
