Rare Breeds Centre, Ashford
Set on a 100-acre farm there’s lots to keep the whole family entertained at The Rare Breeds Centre near Ashford.

THE EXPERIENCE
Children can meet and pet friendly animals in the Children’s Barn, home to friendly farmyard animals including cuddly rabbits, guinea pigs, the cheeky goats and the farm’s famous Highland cow, Huckleberry. Don’t forget to visit the aviary, where a colourful collection of birds flutters all around you!
Come rain or shine, the tropical butterfly tunnel is a magical place to explore. Open from mid-May to October, this warm, plant-filled haven is home to butterflies from around the world, and there’s always something new to spot with every visit.
Once you’ve met all the animals, the fun continues outdoors with a fantastic range of activities. Hop aboard the accessible tractor trailer ride for a tour of the farm, up to the secret lake, past the giant tyre snake, and back down the hill. Test your balance and bravery in the Mysterious Marsh, cross bridges, swing on tyres, and dodge the mischievous marsh trolls! Or, head over to Hill Fort to rule the castle or navigate round the tunnel maze.
Make sure to visit the Tractor Village by the pig racetrack, where little ones can take the wheel and drive their very own mini tractors. Just across the way, the Discovery Garden is waiting to be explored, where you can see and learn all about the fruit and vegetables that are growing.
If the weather turns, there’s still plenty to do indoors. The soft play area is packed with slides, ball pits, climbing zones, and padded blocks, giving children the perfect place to stretch their imagination.
Set across 100 acres, the farm is also home to ancient woodland, ideal for a peaceful stroll or a lively family adventure. Enjoy the fresh air, spot local wildlife, discover hidden surprises, and give little ones the space to run free.
EAT
When you are feeling peckish head over to the Granary Restaurant, where you’ll find a tempting selection of freshly prepared meals, including tasty vegan and vegetarian options, a large selection of hot and cold drinks and plenty of sweet and savoury snacks.
Or if you are looking for a caffeine boost pit stop, take a break at The Cabin to enjoy one of their barista coffee’s, with a selection of milks available there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
If you are in the mood for something sweet, head to the Ice Cream Kiosk, which serves a variety of Kelly’s soft scoop ice cream flavours!
