A long-standing local favourite, it’s as suited to celebratory lunches and destination dinners as it is to relaxed Sunday roasts or golden-hour drinks on the terrace. Elegant without ever feeling formal, it’s a go-to for weddings, special occasions and those “just because” meals that deserve a memorable backdrop. A true Tunbridge Wells classic, and still one of the area’s most special places to dine.

THE LOCATION

Hidden along Tea Garden Lane on the edge of the woods, The Beacon is set within 17 acres of gardens and woodland overlooking Happy Valley. Much of the produce is grown on site, with vegetables, herbs and fruit harvested from the grounds and everything else sourced as locally and seasonally as possible. Inside, you’ll find crackling winter fires, springtime bluebells and foxgloves, and a sun-soaked terrace that comes alive in summer. From relaxed family meals and date nights to special celebrations, the beautifully refurbished country house offers two distinct dining experiences: the relaxed Garden Bar and the more formal Dining Room.

THE DINING ROOM

The Dining Room offers a refined yet welcoming experience, shaped by Executive Chef Scott Goss, whose seasonal menus celebrate carefully selected, high-quality ingredients. Perfect for celebrations or a memorable treat, it feels intimate and special, with the house’s rich history adding character to every meal. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted with warm smiles from Chloe as she welcomes you, expertly crafted cocktails from Henry set the tone, and elegant, attentive service from the front of house team ensures nothing ever feels too much trouble. The Hearth Restaurant is open Wednesday to Saturday for dinner and Sundays for roasts.

THE GARDEN BAR

The light-filled Garden Bar offers a more relaxed way to enjoy The Beacon, with sweeping views and sunshine streaming through the windows creating a holiday-like atmosphere. Ideal for coffee, breakfast, light lunches, dinner or drinks with friends, it’s the perfect spot for a casual catch-up or a leisurely meal. When the weather allows, the terrace opens up to make the most of the countryside air and panoramic scenery. The Garden Bar is open 7 days a week, 8:30am to 8pm.

STAY

The Beacon offers eight beautifully designed boutique bedrooms, including six individually styled rooms within the main house and a charming summer house cabin positioned just below the house, where guests can enjoy spectacular countryside views. Accommodation options include the luxurious Summer House Cabin, featuring a super king-size bed, walk-in rainfall shower and terrace bathtub, alongside individually styled rooms such as Yarrow, Blackthorn, Spindle Berry, Beechnut, Eyebright and Burdock, each offering unique design details, en-suite facilities and amenities including minibars, tea and coffee making facilities, WiFi and entertainment options. There is also a handcrafted shepherd’s hut retreat called the Holly Hut, offering a cosy, design-led escape surrounded by nature with a king-size bed and scenic views. Romantic, characterful and full of countryside charm, The Beacon is a sought-after wedding and events venue in Kent, offering exclusive-use celebrations in the house and gardens. Couples can marry in the gardens or inside the elegant dining spaces, with countless picturesque backdrops for photographs. The experienced events team supports planning from start to finish, working with trusted local suppliers to create truly personal celebrations.
